Contrary to what our "fawn" response believes, approval does not necessarily equal safety. The backflips we do to gain others' approval can actually telegraph to dangerous people that we can be manipulated-- that our addiction to approval is exploitable.

Identify the creators that got you through your toughest moments. The poets, the philosophers, the songwriters, the comedians, the hosts, even the Internet personalities. They didn't resonate w/ you by accident. They have an ongoing role to play in your mental health recovery.

Realistically managing & reducing our "fawn" reflex is going to involve tolerating the discomfort of others not liking or approving of us-- & that will scare the hell out of our inner child. Meet that terror w/ compassion, patience, & realism. There's nothing shameful about it

The pain of abandonment or betrayal by the people who should have our back is awful. No need to deny it or disown it. And also no need to turn their abandonment or betrayal into a reason to abandon, betray, or sabotage ourselves. That won't help or fix or soothe anything.

The wounds inflicted by neglect are insidious, because they're less easily recognizable than the injuries caused by abuse. But telltale signs include a deep need (not just a want or preference) to be chosen, special-- & the belief that not being chosen means utter unworthiness.

Taking your suspiciously Anne-shaped Bernese to the pet salon to have their suspiciously Anne-shaped bangs trimmed and depriving them (purposely or not) of the only human-like trait that might suggest some sort of TF happened.
