I'm here for the birds and the smart people who like birds. And restoring native plant species. And good vibes. Illustration of northern pintail duck by @aledthompson.bsky.social

JD Vance: … people hang out those hideous signs in their yard that say, "in this house we believe blah blah blah blah blah. You know, love is love, science is science, whatever. No person is illegal." That sign is such a disgusting butchering of the Chipotle mission statement.

@nbcnews.com where is the coverage about what’s happening in Tennessee? This is the 2nd night in a row. A move that affects approx. 620,000 in Memphis…maybe you could scootch your breathless coverage of the cruise ship to slot 2.

You know how many people were involved in creating and approving that Dunkin ad? At any stage in that process, someone should have been brave enough to say, “this is so bad guys.”

Have you seen our bison?

Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work. “First, could I ask you to say and spell your first and last name?”

Winter birding is so much fun. Quiet. No mosquitoes. Get all bundled up, toe warmers, hand warmers, layers, boots. Sure I only saw 10 species, but if the birds show out, I’ll toss on the purple parka that makes me look like Barney, and then I will too.

Back in May, a park worker told me that a Carolina wren had made a nest in the 100-year old maintenance garage. Weeks later, chaos ensued in the garage when the chicks fledged. Working in a state park has so many lovely, small moments.

The wrens regularly flew around in the two-story garage picking spiders from the windows. The garage doors are open all day so the parents could come and go freely.

This was one of 14 monarchs I raised from an egg this year. All were successfully released. It’s such a quiet thing I do. But I thought maybe someone out there could use some beauty.

Must see TV

Josh Johnson@joshjohnsoncomedy.bsky.social

This week, I’m hosting The Daily Show Tuesday through Thursday. It’s my first time hosting anything on TV. Ever. I’ve spent years writing behind the scenes, learning from truly great and talented people. Now, for three nights, I get to sit at the desk and do it myself.

They gutted NOAA — is that because the agency “failed to tell the story” about how predicting hurricanes is good? The people destroying these agencies are deranged conspiracists allergic to basic facts and expertise. *This* is the important thing to stress when describing and responding to it.

Are you really doing a birding festival right if you don’t come home bruised, body in shambles, still picking of ticks, exhausted, exhilarated, needing to take Monday off, and checking online for you next bins upgrade? #indianadunesbirdingfestival

How quickly Nefertari gives up the highly secretive info about Moses will forever crack me up. All Moses asks is “how can a cloth destroy me” and she sings like a crazy bird. I would have held out longer than 2 seconds.

NEW: Sources tell my office that Treasury Secretary Bessent has granted DOGE *full* access to this system. Social Security and Medicare benefits, grants, payments to government contractors, including those that compete directly with Musk's own companies. All of it.

This is Frankie (aka Pennywise). This is Frankie's box. It has crinkle paper in it. She does not want you to put in softer material. Just the crinkle paper, if you please.

Adopted a senior lady this week. She's been through some stuff for sure. She's pretty much been sleeping and purring for 5 days straight. Kind of crazy looking, like a cobbled-together cat. Meet Frankie, y'all.

Early Sept I had 18 5th-instar Monarch cats in my Swamp Milkweed. I caught a couple of No. Cardinals feasting themselves (I hope they got tummy aches) so I brought in the remaining cats to safety. Here they are on release day, beautiful and ready for the journey south.
