Learn how you can help protect our elections and make an impact on our democracy! Join us at noon on October 17, starting at Piedmont Park. We'll march through Midtown, then learn how to be involved in protecting our elections.

πŸ•ΈπŸ•·πŸ•Έ Outside, our house is overrun with huge, invasive Joro spiders and their creepy-strong webs. Leaves are rustling, falling. The night is dark and almost chilly. Mist is coalescing over the lake and now the coyotes have started up in the distance (but not far). It is deliciously October-y. πŸŽƒπŸ‚

The deadline to register to vote in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi is Oct. 5! Today is a great day to double-check your voter registration ahead of the deadline. Make sure you are ready to make your voice heard! #WeDecide Find everything you need here: https://bit.ly/4wPidmz

This is so far beyond the scope of the SEB’s authority it boggles the mind. Can you imagine any Republican a decade ago BEGGING for FEDERAL INTERFERENCE in a STATE-RUN ELECTION? If you want to be on call to fight this nonsense, NOW is the time to join Indivisible Election Defense Corps.

One reason cited for such rules is the supposed rise of youth "pop-up riots" instigated on social media. Why is social media so powerful in their lives? Could it be that, despite being a funhouse mirror of human relationships, it is the last frontier of independent socialization that we allow them?

Thinking of service professionals as part of your community & not your staff is a lost value (& skill frankly) for too many. Gotta sit everyone down & make them watch the Sesame Street β€œThese are the people in your neighborhood” song w/their eyeballs preyed open like a clockwork orange.

Public health is at its best when you don't even notice it's working. It doesn't just pop up during a pandemic. It's clean water. It’s food safety. It’s disease prevention. It’s protecting our communities before a crisis hits. That's why we need public health champions in Congress!

Just got back from some elections training. I am always so impressed with the procedures and the level of organization here in Georgia! We got this! πŸ—³ 🧡 Some suggestions to voters to help everything run smoothly: - Check your registration early. Make sure everything looks correct. Do it today!

🧡 - If you'll be voting in-person, make a plan for when & where. Have a backup plan for if you can't go that day after all. Look up polling places & hours. - I recommend voting early. It ensures you have time, & helps spread out the work for pollworkers, which helps things run smoothly every day.

🧡 - Make sure to vote! Urge people you know to vote! Share accurate information. Offer rides if needed/possible. ** GA voters can find their registration status, polling places, and a sample ballot at mvp.sos.ga.gov ** Use it! Share it! Start planning now. Thank you. /🧡

🧡 - If you want to vote by mail, request your ballot early. Check your county's drop box locations and hours. (Some are NOT 24 hrs! I learned that this month.) - Complete your ballot promptly, and hand-deliver it to an official drop box.

I'll be taking it, working it, and doing my best to shake it (within decorum in my official role as pollworker). Hopefully I won't have to get out to enforce it, but if we do I'll be there. What about you? First step: check your voter registration!

Currently debating with my youngest on whether rabbits are immoral. πŸ‡ (How did I get here? πŸ€”) Kid says rabbits are evil. I say they were influenced by Monty Python at a very young age. Kid says cats are moral, which has led to a disussion of what, precisely, morality IS.

One definition is: "founded on the fundamental principles of right conduct rather than on legalities, enactment, or custom." Kid points out that our cats are very invested in us maintaining (their idea of) right conduct. I point out that they are not at all so adamant regarding their OWN conduct. 🐈

I really miss small independent vets. We used to have a wonderful vet who was SO practical & caring (long retired now). Now I'm getting squeezed harder & harder with higher costs & pressure to do everything (or else I'm a bad person). I want to take the best care of them, but I also need groceries!!

Like SO many things, the corporatization of vet care has stripped it of personalized, responsive and practical service. It's one size (and one price- firm) fits all. Life is not standardized, though. Health care, whether for people or pets, should be highly personalized.

A few little reminders/suggestions: - Get all your papers in order, for all your family members. Birth certs, IDs, vax records, marriage certs, citizenship docs, etc. Get passports. - Check your voter registration. Is it active? Has your assigned location changed? Do you need to update anything? 🧡

It takes time so just chip away at it when you can. - Meanwhile, hound state & federal representatives. (I like the 5 Calls app for this.) - Connect with like-minded folks & volunteer in the community. - Volunteer on a candidate's campaign. Become a pollworker. Get off social media & be a helper. 🧡

Finally, take care of yourself. Breathe. Go outside (maybe at night, if it's a billion degrees). Listen to music (like, stop & actually listen). Stretch. Drink some water. Relax your face. Release your shoulders. Another deep breath. Another day, another step. The only way is forward. /

- Take care of needed maintenance of your home & car(s). - Take care of needed medical & dental visits. Update eyeglasses if needed. - Stock up on some basic shelf-stable necessities. - Have plans & supplies handy for weather emergencies. - Cut back a little on spending & start an emergency fund. 🧡

Basically, just be prepared. Whatever craziness might develop (Supply chain shortages? Severe weather? Social unrest? Pandemic? etc) set up as much as you can for stability while you decide what to do, & preparedness for your next move. It's wise but also feels productive, which is very helpful. 🧡
