In the last year, No More Robots has funded + is currently funding a dozen games, and has paid numerous devs to make prototypes happen for free But obviously, getting press is absolutely impossible for us, because only doom and gloom gets clicks

Why isn’t anyone funding video games anymore? aftermath.site/you-are-error-...

threatening to leak exploits for an indie org because they dont want to dig through ai-gen slop flooding their game engine is a new low. godot is absolutely in the right to ensure that only human vetted security concerns are raised to them, although i doubt the real impact vectors here.

people are going to be surprised about tomorrows election. because they never stopped to think an 80-year old candidate and vp in their 70s could have energy against a 50/60 year old duo. why do we never learn this lesson

indie should not mean buying ramen in bulk and refusing funding or help. we need to normalize healthy working conditions and create resources for indies to get funding, co-dev partnerships, and support.

for those thinking how much better europe is than us, france is sliding into the far-right because macron doesn't know how to solve domestic problems. his party's candidate Attal is under 10% in all the polls and it's clear france is going to capitulate like italy and germany.

it seems 'fixing problems' is a winning platform. maybe its a lesson we can learn from? also missing is how brazil is about to fall to the far right as well because apparently the moment we win any election we just...stop doing things?

it sucks when you see the same cycle of people being let go, pulling each other into a new studio, only to be let go from that been checking up on people lately and seeing what they have been doing has been so brutal

For those wondering this is about the Forward Party because β€œsaying not left or right is what fascists always say” Good news is we might win some more elections this cycle :D

you ever feel bad applying for a job? like 'theres a single laid off parent who needs this more than me' with the amount of layoffs is almost feels unethical / wrong to steal the opportunity away from someone who needs it more

πŸŽ‰ HUGE CAREER ANNOUNCEMENT πŸŽ‰ Today, I'm launching Vertical Slice, a new independent trade outlet committed to producing quality video game journalism that inspires, informs, and interrogates. That means daily news, incisive interviews, vital investigative work, and more. www.verticalslice.news

need a solid business idea. thinking of a dating app for gamedevs to come together to work on projects. also just thinking of a better traffic management system for restaurant lines.

News agencies are demonizing a young man for taking a small vehicle to a lavatory truck parked nearby. In California it's now literally illegal to go to the bathroom at an airport.

i have a headache today from the amount of brigading by anti-ai people accusing organic indie devs of using ai or being bots when they aren't. now people are saying 'we arent extreme enough' with the anti-ai approach. the witchhunting has gotten so bad we had to ban the term 'slop' in our spaces.

Evan Urquhart@evanurquhart.bsky.social

I'm increasingly frustrated that people who are anti-AI aren't being taken seriously, and taking a page out of my thoughts on why the anti-trans backlash got as far as it did I'm starting to think the anti-AI side isn't extreme enough.

it feels each day the situation gets worse and worse as anonymous people online just blatantly lie about developers and attack them for things they do not do. why are we so insistent on 'proving' someone used ai? low effort content filters itself out by default.

There is so much witchhunting in the gamedev / indiedev spaces lately, trying to prove a user is a bot or using AI when they aren't. Routinely almost 95% of our investigations find a user is indeed organic.

I don't know why there is such a wave of people trying to act like they are flooded with AI when across all gamedev spaces this content is always low-effort and filtered out / removed. The only real AI bros here are tech investors putting features into Unity / Unreal.

Although there are some valid use cases Unity has (asset store / asset management / editor tooling) which their AI features could help with for indies, but you don't need to burn tokens on that when a different approach is better. Honestly just templatize tools in a blueprints style.

Reddit itself takes out almost all spam accounts or bots, which is impressive. If you see a community flooded by bots it means the mod team chose to turn off Reddit's filters. Each time we look into a report of AI it's just a developer using a translation tool or speaks English as a second lang.

It's always weird seeing comments like this on BlueSky, because showcasing posts are not allowed in our community. These things simply do not happen in any noticeable capacity and we routinely remove more AI content than the 'anti-ai' indie dev spaces I also moderate lol.

By the way I'm now looking for gigs / employment again. If you're an #indie studio looking to launch a #kickstarter I'm available for free consultation and planning. If you're a larger studio the same offer applies except if the campaign gets funded there will be a 2% - 3% fee.

This also includes backer support and helping with digital fulfillment. While I do have experience working with physical fulfillment I do not have any distribution contacts but am willing to put in the legwork.

An important update from KO_OP.
