Looking for a measure of #neighborhoods, micro or macro #segregation?
I've got something for you!
My newly published paper in Sociological Methods & Research presents a machine-learning-based algorithm to delineate neighborhoods with grid-cell or point data:

Looking forward to talk about #gentrification in German cities and #IV approaches with the #methods enthusiasts at @mzesunimannheim.bsky.social (and online 😉)! 🏘📊

New publication in Work, Employment & Society with @selang.bsky.social 📄✨
Why do some #unemployed feel more stigmatized than others? We find a U-shaped association with #neighborhood unemployment: stigma decreases at first, but rises again in highly unemployed neighborhoods

I know most senior researchers hate the (increasing) load of #review requests, but can we also cheer the moment of #ecr when they read the journals' decision on a paper they reviewed? For me, this is one big step of being part of a scientific community I love to be a part of
📢 New open-access publication in the Journal of Family Research!
What do people actually consider a fair division of parental leave between partners? The answer is more surprising than you might expect. 👇
doi.org/10.20377/jfr...#JFR#JFamRes#openaccess#openscience#sociology#published
Thrilled our paper is out now in AJS.
Parents & scholars have long known the linked fate of schools & neighborhoods, but how does change in one domain relate to the other? We (@ebruch.bsky.social) propose a theory of coupled tipping & find support for our model in data over 20 yrs & 3,000 schools.
Can artists change neighborhoods? 🎨🏘 Presented joint work with @ninaglaeser.bsky.social at #INAS2026! Using German administrative data and an IV approach, we show that artists don't gentrify neighborhoods themselves but they attract early high-status in-movers.
Stay tuned for the preprint! :)

New preprint out with @mfphilipp.bsky.social & @eileenpeters.bsky.social ✨️
From #neighborhood exposure to #genderbeliefs? We find that local female employment patterns are linked to beliefs about when mothers should return to full-time work.

For the #spatial folks among you: we exploited random distances between residential locations and large firms within German local labor markets to identify the causal effect of #dropout due to attractive alternatives 🚙💸⬆️
New #OA at ESR 🌟
What is the income penalty of dropping out of #VET in Germany? With an IV strategy, @kostermann.bsky.social, @patzinaalex.bsky.social & @katymorris.bsky.social show that the causal effect is substantial and especially pronounced for lower SES individuals
doi.org/10.1093/esr/...
Our paper has recently been published from ESR! Exploiting policy-induced longitudinal changes in regional university availability, we showed that increased access boosts enrolment, while the impact is stronger for individuals with highly educated parents.
