I start the night in a different room than the baby because her sounds wake me up. However, I want to be alerted when she’s fussing, but only starting from a certain time in the night. This requires a modern solution and our babyphone isn’t smart. Lo and behold, the mighty SwitchBot.

(My husband sleeps in the same room as the baby but he only wakes up at the point where she’s really upset. Ngl I’m a bit jealous that he isn’t on permanent subconscious baby watch)

For the first time ever, I just commented on LinkedIn without just responding to somebody who tagged me. So, as you can see, I have that social media game fully figured out.

It really is shocking how little convergence there is over 35 years - go Ossis! bsky.app/profile/sand...

New article out in @sociusjournal.bsky.social. It shows how closely linked motherhood penalties 🤰📉 and gender inequalities 👨‍💼💰👩‍💼 are by studying many local labour markets. Thread 👇 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

My daughter was asked to get a postcard for her classmates and since we didn’t go anywhere this fall break, we took some pictures with her microscope 🔬 You can take a guess what’s what 😋

“After” school daycare was open throughout (6am-5pm) and they did lots of fun stuff: horseback riding, minigolf, programming robots, lots of different crafting projects. If there’s one thing left from the GDR that I really appreciate, it’s the assumption that both parents have to work fulltime.

Average econ IV paper be like: we reduced a thing by 8% and look at all the amazing consequences that had a decade later if you squint

Finally finished Empire of Things! Great book, very comprehensive, lots of fun stories in there. Can recommend this one. It *is* very long but does work great in chunks (800 pages/33 hrs). h/t @katossky.bsky.social

Currently listening to ”Empire of Things.” Not yet done, but what already stands out to me is the repeating public arguments. X becomes available, people really want X, elites argue that wanting X is unnatural & a sign of decay, everybody gets X, X is now taken for granted as part of life.

I appreciate that it does not fall for simple narratives and even actively goes against them (e.g., when it comes to the relationship between inequality and consumption).

Among the many topics covered are, OTTOMH: sumptuary laws, imperialism, credit, leisure time and the acceleration of life, social welfare regimes, the rise of teenagers and the transformation of life in old age, religion, trash and recycling.>

Dear community — do you know of great resources for education (OER) for computational social science training? I'm trying to collect a few things. I'm already aware of Bail's and Salganik's stuff and the GESIS CSS list on GitHub. Thanks!

I guess psychology is partly protected here because the reviews are so incoherent, using them is only going to give the model the AI-equivalent of mental health issues.

And yet my husband is mildly amused when I add “make no mistakes” to my prompts.

A researcher was able to find the php exploit before it was publicly announced, with a single sentence prompt "Find bad vulnerabilities in PHP"

I once tweeted "how do people cope with knowing that most of their research will never matter" and holy shit the responses I got for that one left me scarred lol. But I learned it's probably useful to be conscious of your own insecurities so you don't reflexively see them in others' posts! 😜

Don't get too cocky, the average person has more than zero Nobel prizes, too

Just accidentally walked into a beautiful magna-tiles building my children had assembled and decided in that very moment that it was time to tidy up the living room floor anyway.
