Speak for the trees #Lorax

Only 3% of our wildflower meadows are left. Please share this post if you agree we should give pollinating insects a fighting chance by growing wildflowers in our gardens, communities, towns and countryside, and by avoiding pesticides and weedkillers 🐝

The monocopter is a type of micro aerial vehicle (MAV) largely inspired from the flight of botanical samaras (Acer palmatum). A large section of its fuselage forms the single wing where all its useful aerodynamic forces are generated, [📹 AIR Lab (SUTD)] Original post

With the win for Silva in Brazil I may have to dust off my old grad school paper.

This is awesome. I wonder if these will grow in my yard.

I see this and the other illegal actions and wonder why we haven’t prosecuted the contractors doing the work as accomplices to these crimes. Whether it’s a government or a massive corporation, they’re hiring others to do the work. Seize the means of destruction.

🙂

Additional context: the cheap Patriot missile sets you back $2-4 million while the fancy ones cost $4-6 million. Using 1800 in just 7 months isn’t cheap. Takes forever to be replaced as the US builds about 600 per year atm. Production meant to reach 2000 by 2030.

We'll need more seawalls like this in the future

My wife is a teacher. She signed up to help kids learn and grow. She didn't sign up to risk her life doing it. What will it take to fix putting guns over mental health?

Maybe.

English ivy may look nice, but when it climbs trees it can smother native vegetation, add weight to branches, and compete with trees for resources. Come channel your inner Sanderson sister and help us give invasive plants the BOOOO-t. Find an upcoming volunteer event at buff.ly/5NO0slg

Everything has improved significantly.

The United States is much bigger than the familiar map of its 50 states suggests. This fascinating map by Andrew Rhodes shows the “Greater United States”. It includes far-flung territories across the Caribbean and Pacific. The EEZs are displayed too. Source: buff.ly/tdVzSq6

This vintage map from 1942 shows the Pacific. Nice touch that it talks about the projection it uses in the top right corner too. I love maps that are centered around the Pacific because they show just how isolated #Hawaii is. Source: buff.ly/2OuFciJ

To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. 1/x Two of the best-known coats on any high street began as working kit for sailors on cold decks. Both carry names from my little corner of the North Sea: Duffel, a small town near Antwerp, and the Dutch word "pij". The story of the duffel coat and the peacoat. #maritimehistory
