For @wamc.org: I'm at Springfield's Union Station where Gov. Maura Healey and a confluence of WMass state lawmakers are here to announce a new infusion of $130M in fed dollars for east-west rail
I left a 3-star review for an Etsy seller whose product was so not worth the price I paid that I feel like a sucker and am embarrassed.
So he messaged me, and let's just say, it's now a 2-star review. Did you know you can't argue someone into giving you a better review?
Is this a thing on Etsy? Like, find someone who has a relatively old shop that seems to be defunct (I'm sure there are plenty that didn't work out) and offer money so that you don't have to start out as a new seller in this day and age of AI slop.
(He wasn't AI slop, just not a good-quality shop.)
Update: he sent even nastier messages when I told him I wouldn't delete my review, so now it's a 1-star review with more details about his winning customer service.
I found his BBB profile. All reviews are 1 star, one specifically calling out that he seems to have an issue with women. Shocking.

This guy, he does not know this. Somehow he has 1.3k reviews (ave. 4.6 stars) and hasn't realized the best move is to either ignore bad reviews or (if you must) message them to try to make things right if the review suggests, e.g., the item arrived broken. I wonder if this guy "bought" his shop....
I'm watching Best Medicine, which takes place in Maine in a small village perhaps not unlike Widow's Bay.... But that comparison raised my expectations too high, alas.
Here's one gripe: I don't think the characters don't have accents consistent with growing up and living all their lives in eastern New England. Maybe I've been spoiled by Kevin Can F*ck Himself, but I want my New England shows to be more genuinely New England-y.
(I love how I can't write so I always edit my posts and then just make them worse: "I don't think the characters don't have accents..." ??! Ugh. I meant...I don't think a single character has an accent consistent with growing up and living all their life here.)

Another random gripe: New Englanders are stand-offish, and this show just does not portray that. To copy the same storytelling as the original show, they need Dr Best to be anywhere there is a plot-driving conversation, but this is an example of something just not working here.
me: I'm planning to get groceries tomorrow at the Market Basket in Somerville :)
nor'easter: lol, sucks to be you! maybe you should give up and just eat beans all weekend

What is that? That's a hard-coded API token that Flock cameras use to identify themselves and get OAuth credentials, which can then be used to talk to Flock's production servers. Like, anyone on the internet can probably do this right now.
I'm crying reading the messages of solidarity from these artists. It wasn't that long ago that I lost friends because I supported campus protests against the genocide.
I think I always suspected Musk was a fraud because experiences I had earlier in life immunized me against guys like him. But I've also had to learn from hard experience more recently of other kinds of jerks. What if there were a book that was just, like, an encyclopedia of assholes?
Great literature that is character-driven could also immunize you. Maybe the encyclopedia of assholes is just a collection of short stories that will piss you off.
"The whole “Oh no, our models went rogue” thing … When a bridge collapses, you don’t analyze whether the bridge was ethical or sentient or why it decided to collapse. You ask, who is the person who built this bridge to be so flimsy?"

This is what I have trouble imagining. Like, what can an LLM or even agentic AI actually *do* to destroy the world? Hack the electrical grid and shut it down? Scam us all out of all our money? Impersonate the president and launch our nukes? Like, what is the actual danger we're anticipating here?
If they really believed any of this, they'd be, like, a million times more specific.
HOW is ai is going to kill us all. Is it nukes? Is it poison? Is it some weird 25th century nanomachine nonsense? What is the mechanism?
If I had to guess which is the most dangerous realistically: pig-butchering with AI girlfriends on a larger scale than is possible now with real human labor. It would still be humans running it, though.
As part of boot camp, Alpha School students apparently have their heart rates monitored as they watch recorded videos of their parents critiquing them. This activity takes place in front of their classmates, and students must keep their heart rates within 10 percent of their baseline to pass.

Hello, Primary election day!
As in past years, I will attempt to collect Cambridge election results from machine tapes as polls close or tapes are posted at the Senior Center.
(But many races go outside #cambma boundaries, so value of this is limited!)

I can't tell if I'm just not on Facebook enough or what, but I hate the marketplace chat UI. I'm using FB in the browser, so maybe that's the problem? It's all first names with the same icon (the thing I'm selling). It's a mess when people with similar names message you about a thing.
