I love blind alley. this character started heading towards the other characters five years ago and instead of reaching them has been suffering and becoming progressively more injured as if punished by God

Blind Alley No. 446

find myself thinking often about the laudable fact of Watterson never exploiting Calving & Hobbes, while imagining how wholly different his decisions probably would be had he been working in a different context (ie. today).

obviously c&h is undeniable. i just think it is worthwhile drawing attention to the fact he had won the jack-pot when he said no to merchandising or adaptation. i have spent most of my life judging folks for doing the opposite, when honestly i am not sure i would be able to materially say no!

i guess i am thinking about this because i like to imagine someone knocking on my door and handing me a comically large cheque in order to adapt Blind Alley. Not because I want that to happen, but because I want the benefits that wealth provide (free time to make the shit i want to make)

i am grateful to live in a world without Calvin & Hobbes’ faces being plastered on shitty merchandise, but watterson also lived in a bygone era where there was the slimmest insitutional chance of a cartoonist making enough (or more than enough!) just from a comic strip.

i have to go get more books from storage so i will close the shop tonight!

you have until tonight to snag a copy of any of the Blind Alley books!

Gonna be shutting down the shop on Monday at midnight. You have until then to place orders. On a related note, after these printings sell out, I will not be reprinting these editions. So, if ya want one, you’ll have to snag it soon. kumerish.bigcartel.com

Incredibly grateful to be on the fourth printing of BA No. 1. Each time I reprint them, I’ve bumped up the quantity too. I would reprint them forever if space were not in short supply!

For clarity’s sake, I imagine the quantity of books I have left will take my through next years festival season. After that, you probably won’t be able to get these books. :)
