So schön!

How should we track human decisions in the kind of data science project that Alex envisions, and how can we ensure LLMs implement our decisions faithfully? One idea would be "Data Analysis Decision Records" What do you think? I'd love any feedback on #DADR ! vincentarelbundock.github.io/dadr

Perhaps the future of data science coding will be a continuous conversation with coding agents who present us with a series of analytical and coding decisions. We decide, they implement. (And, if we take our work seriously, we then review their implementation.)

Are people already working this way? Any workflows or IDEs designed around this iterative dialogue for social science or statistical analysis? I'd love examples where agents actively elicit analytical decisions throughout a project.

And, of course, we could not only select one option over another but also mark some alternatives as plausible secondary analytical options. These would then be included in a multiverse analysis to assess how sensitive the results are to our analytical decisions.

When estimating the marginal means, do we include only adult respondents? Use listwise deletion or imputation? If we choose the latter, which of these three implementation options should we use?

We provide agents with data, research questions, and as much context on the analysis strategy as possible. The agent then devises implementation options and guides us through the garden of forking paths step by step.
