"Kyle Lukoff? Isn't he, like, the trans Maurice Sendak?" "No, Maurice Sendak is the cis Kyle Lukoff."

I am especially proud of the line "it is a mistake to think that I can be easily cowed by obfuscatory language." Don't ask me to pronounce "obfuscatory" though.

**A Note by Kyle Lukoff** The Ashford School District in Connecticut recently informed Newbery Honor-winning children’s book author @kylelukoff.bsky.social he would not be permitted to visit with their students. Our silence makes us complicit. theauthorvillage.substack.com/p/banned-by-...

Love to be banned from a school ten miles from my house because the admin decided they need to give parents a chance to "opt out" from me reading the first chapter of "Too Bright To See" for "First Chapter Friday."

Meanwhile the school I just visited in the Berkshires greeted me with a basket full of cheese and jigsaw puzzles, and a poster made by students welcoming "Klye."

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Not the same of course but it reminds me of the falsehood that "getting your book banned is great for sales." Any silver linings attached to being targeted by the state are attached to giant dangerous stormclouds, we don't need any feel-good reminders.

Saw ANOTHER person say my indictment was the best thing to happen to my campaign. Let me be clear: It severely limited what I could say, where I could go, and what I could do. I had to worry about prison AND legal fees for myself AND my (amazing) field director. Political prosecutions aren’t fun.

tremors and jaws are both great movies, and Jaws probably succeeds more as a work of horror. but Tremors is actually perfect. an almost unique example of a film executed flawlessly in line with its vision.

I think we underrate that JCO came up in 20th century New York literary circles where everyone said five most devastating insults before breakfast and as one of the last one standing, her competition is guys who get sad if their chatbot isn't sufficiently nice to them.

i actually don't find this moral panic of a story funny bc i can see exactly where it will go: —"intolerent lesbians harm the masculine raw dogging of air" —"controlling bitches" —"disability accomodations = oppression" —"why are transwomen allowed in lesbian bars but not unmasked cis women?"

Patrick Monahan@pattymo.com

Mass lesbian bar masking story is getting Oberlin cafeteria levels of coverage, meaning it will define reactionary and reactionary-fearing centrist politics for the next 15 years

I get one tattoo from every book I publish, and I need help picking the next one! Which unicycle do you prefer, or or two? It's gonna be black and gray ink but otherwise accurate.

One of my personal favorites of my books comes out in less than a month, so there's still time to pre-order! It's a book that's having a conversation with The Giving Tree and I love it so so much (and isn't Priscilla Tey's art incredible?) bookshop.org/p/books/the-...

A giant clam can top 200 kg and live over a century, but it barely feeds. It farms algae in its colorful mantle, living on the sugar they make in sunlight. Its blue-green cells act like lenses, aiming light at the captive gardens inside. Sunlight built this giant. 🧪 #HowToBuildAGiant #marinelife

In the last month I've had two separate friends ask if I could chat with someone they know who was (with no education, experience, or training) suddenly put in charge of a school library, to give them advice about how to do that job. My response has been "insist that the school hire a librarian."

It's both infuriating and heartbreaking that librarians are treated as unnecessary indulgences, and that librarianship is seen as a random task that anyone can do.

I'm also afraid that I've been a little rude to my friends by telling them that a conversation with me cannot replace a masters degree in library science. I know they know that. But I can't think of a more tactful way of framing it.
