Damn. RIP Dolly. She was an amazing performer and an amazing person. She did more good in this world than probably any of us know. May the angels' arms welcome her. ❤️

Dear Lord, there really ARE people who believed this (note the date) 👇 I doubt even Trump's cabinet members were this out of touch. In Bill's defense at least he had the courage to leave it up on Xitter. If Trump ever starts selling Kool Aid, Crazy Uncle Bob will be missing from Thanksgiving... 😏

Hello BSky fam! I hope you've been well. Life gets crazy sometimes and between the full time and starting a biz, I haven't had much free time. However, it's been a great summer so far. Locked in my YMSB tickets for October at Wildwood Springs Lodge in MO! Can't wait! 🪕 🎸 🎤 (no acoustic emoji lol)

3/One of the best uses of this book is for persuading folks waking up after decades of bullshit, realizing Trump might not be a populist savior after all. Conason ties it neatly together, from the Red Scare/war on gay gov officials of the 50's, straight through today, and the writing is superb. 💙📚

4/My favorite books are written by journalists and told in a "just the facts, ma'am" style that lets the reader draw their own inferences. Ya know, what journalists are supposed to do. Bottom line, this book is a great and topical read and you won't be disappointed. 💙📚

2/In 2026, you're hard pressed to find a more relevant read. Tracing Trump's lineage back to MCarthy and Roy Cohn, Conason lays bare the swamp in gory detail. Swindling educated middle Americans, begun in earnest with the Goldwater campaign, is far from a new grift. If only ppl still read books! 💙📚

Is anyone else freaking excited about #ARTEMISII? As someone who's about 50/50 (or maybe 30/70 - centerforaninformedamerica.com/moondoggie-1/) that we went to the moon before, a trip around in 2026 would go a long way with me. Sending positive vibes to the 'nauts on board for a safe mission! 🙏❤️✌️

7/It's entirely possible - even most likely, imho - that a program of subversion, by the time it hit the streets, spiraled into a sprawling behemoth and they completely lost control, with late summer 1969 the culmination. Dig into the Church Committee hearings for proof that illegal ops were afoot.

8/In the most innocent explanation, courts, cops, and probation officers - local and Fed - were WAY too lenient with a sociopath who should have been locked back up any number of times b4 the murders. However, is that all this was? You decide.

5/There's a whole other side to this decade you've never been told. Student protests at UC Berkeley started as far back as 1961, and by 65, the tide was turning against LBJ and the hubris-filled CIA/FBI stepped in to "crisis manage" the situation. Was there genuine fear of foreign influence?

6/Or was it simply fear of the "other" - African Americans, college students who refused to go along, immigrants, etc.? We'll never know for sure, so I'll let you be the judge. Either way, there's strong evidence that Manson was plugged into someone, somewhere. Also remember, real life ain't TV.

3/By 1969, "former" military intelligence officers posing as hippies were embedded deeply into SF, most notably to foment discord among groups and turn the country against the liberal left (I've heard this somewhere before...🤔). Sharon Tate's own father, for instance, was high-ranking military.

2/...it does lay waste to the Helter Skelter theory proposed by lead prosecutor/inveterate liar Vince Bugliosi. It also investigates the strange cast of characters around the scene, coincidentally the height of FBI's COINTELPRO and the CIA's CHAOS programs. And not just fake hippie military types.

Sheesh, talk about stepping on your own dick. If your first instinct is to defend "Birth of a Nation" as misunderstood, you've already exposed yourself as a fuckwit.

friends, I have brought you a gift

Very beautiful piece from @davekarpf.bsky.social about the loss of his beloved dog, Sherlock. Agreed that anyone who's lost a pet can relate. Definitely worth the read.

Aske Kammer@askekammer.dk

I did not know @davekarpf.bsky.social's dog, Sherlock. But I am glad I read his eulogy for it. It is a beautiful piece, and it will resonate with everyone who has ever had a pet - and everyone who has loved. davekarpf.beehiiv.com/p/a-eulogy-f...

I had no idea there was a festival dedicated to Rod Serling, but it makes me very happy to learn it. If you've never watched TZ, the themes are as applicable today as they were then. True visionary.

Rod Serling Memorial Foundation@rodserlingmemfndtn.bsky.social

Always excited to have Anne Serling, author of AS I KNEW HIM: MY DAD, ROD SERLING, at SerlingFest! Bring your book to be signed or buy one there! More guest info and tickets: rodserling.com/serlingfest-...

To any Vatican assassins who may be reading this post: I want to state, unequivocally, the Pope has yet to refute any of my reporting on the #Quiltnocracy. I think we ALL must ask ourselves why that is...

1/So I'm not officially a tech writer...ok, I'm not even unofficially a tech writer...but I am an IT veteran and concerned citizen whose grandma was a prodigious quilter (RIP Grandma Kassie!) and I do believe something fishy is afoot here. In this thread, I will share what I've uncovered so far.

1/Good morning BSky fam. Need to ask a favor. I need all the prayers and positive healing vibes y'all can muster for my aunt Trish who found out yesterday she has a pretty advanced ovarian cancer. Chemo, etc, but prognosis is not great. Trish, and all my Mom's siblings, came up from a rough start.

2/My grandpa Joe was a WW2 vet who drank himself to death in his 30s, leaving behind 5 kids. My grandma, God rest her, picked up where he left off, working as a nurse in pre-welfare Missouri and drinking the rest of the time. I wouldn't raise dogs in some of the places my Mom lived as a child.

3/Despite it (or because of it) they all created better lives for their kids. Trish earned her Masters and worked at the community college level as an educator and admin. I don't say this to garner sympathy, but to let you know who she is. I thank you in advance! 🙏❤️

3/One thing that miffes me - Mastercard crapping their logo all over the official video because they're sponsoring his tour (stadiums, btw). But it ain't 1970. We say "shit" casually in songs and the music industry is dying. At least it's not AI-generated. Agree or disagree? What do you guys think?

Of course this idiot from Missouri has to be in the picture with a big ol' shit eatin'grin on his face, as we say down home.

1/Good morning fam! Sorry to be away for so long. Busy! Dug BB's perf at the Bowl, made me realize I should learn some Spanish. After Kendrick last year, I have to give the NFL some props for bravery. Even tho Bunny's got 1B+ views on a single YT vid (all in Spanish), it took guts to put this on rn.

4/I grew up on Kid Rock in the 90s and he had a certain swagger back then. My parents hated him, which was its own seal of approval. Back then, the absolute UN-coolest thing you could be was a sellout and a political shill. My how times have changed! No one can be cool forever, I suppose.

2/Contrast that with the TPUSA (I know what "TP" means in my house 😂) show, "Faith, Family, Freedom" and Christian values, eh? "Dirt Road Anthem", a paean to drunk driving, Gabby Barrett's "I Hope", the "Louisville Slugger" of the 20s, and "Bawitdaba", an anthem to drug use and...mosh pits?

3/Do I have a problem with any of these topics? Of course not, but don't go waving your "holier than thou" morals in my face when Kid "Balls In Your Mouth" Rock is your headliner (Rodgers and Hammerstein it ain't - genius.com/Kid-rock-bal...). Let's talk about Mr. Ritchie for a sec.

1/I remember the early 00s and Iraq 2: The Sequel when the FBI spied on craftspeople, librarians, Quakers, and any other group that couldn't be "dirtied up". It's easy to make ppl fear the Black Panthers, not so when it's 60 year olds knitting antigovernment slogans. The playbook hasn't changed.

4/But here's the thing - once you lose them, they're GONE. It's like turning around an oil tanker. Their opinions are mist, impossible to grasp. And they absolutely decide our fate. If you want to reach someone? Reach them. Keep knitting and conscientious objecting. Keep talking without yelling.

5/These things make a difference. In "The Emperor Has No Clothes", they're the townspeople. We have to make them see it, but once they do, things will start to change. It is what it is. Wake up the sleeping giant and we might have a chance.

2/Imho, this is one of the most effective forms of resistance: quietly powerful, hugely influential. Pat Buchanan (of all fscking ppl) coined a phrase when he was Nixon's speechwriter: "the silent majority". The 90% who aren't rabidly pro-government or anti-government, who don't post on socials.

3/They don't protest, but they also don't go to Trump rallies. They've always been there, back to the Revolutionary War. They're the underwater part of the iceberg. Nixon's point? He felt he had their support, and he probably did for a while. Ditto Trump, as is clear from his actions.

Oooh! This looks pretty damn cool - www.jambase.com/article/litt.... And long overdue, imho! There's a story in one of the Dead books about Lowell George in the studio with the boys, walking round in overalls with a bag of coke in the hammer loop. Ah the 80s! What a time to be alive! 😬

1/Good God. I've seen news anchors (you know where) saying that Alex Pretti was "waving a gun in their faces", praising ICE for "preventing a MASS SHOOTING"! GRRRR! The hypocrisy of these fscking ppl! Remember Kyle Rittenhouse? Brought an AR-15 TO A PROTEST, murdered 2 ppl, and was praised by Trump.

2/Another jackass was calling ICE agents "victims". Almost 2 decades of screaming about Dems taking their guns, and they're the first to say a man legally carrying a gun is a criminal. What would the response have been if Biden was Pres? I had to stop screaming at the TV bc I was scaring my kitties.

3/You've all seen the vid of Alex Pretti eulogizing a patient who passed. He worked a low paying, thankless job at the VA, when I'm sure he could have made more in private practice. He died protecting a woman from ARMED THUGS. Why do you think he did those things? RIP Alex Pretti, a GOOD MAN. 🙏❤️

One more thing: anyone else notice how armed, jacked up thugs take their frustrations out on women? It takes a real tough guy at 250 lbs to beat up a 120 lb woman. I guess all those big muscles can never compensate for the little one between your legs, eh fellas? What a bunch of goddamn cowards.

Matt Pogue@kyloson.com

1/I'm angry and sick about this ICE situation and I tried to avoid it, but I've got to say something. Anyone else old enough to remember the Rodney King beating, acquittal, and aftermath? That beating (where King lived) was my 1st thought, but this is way worse, not least bc the man was killed.
