Todays song is Hard Time Killin' Floor Blues by Skip James. First recorded in 1931, here performed in 1967. James voice alone can break your heart. From the generation of classic Delta Blues players (b.1902), his ethereal voice gave his work a unique, uncannily modern sound. youtu.be/DoBxzb-8oPc?...

Watched One Battle After Another last night. Great movie, and likely the most subversive one I can recall watching. Curious as to any other subversive movies you all might recommend.

Just watched Famous Last Words with Jane Goodall on Netflix. Filmed last March, not to be released until after her death, it was so very moving! Her message to us, to have hope and avoid apathy, really struck home! Strongly recommend!!

I think it’s fair to say there have been more overt attacks on and threats to freedom of expression in the US since January than in our entire history. And recently they are accelerating and getting more brazen.

Well, got a call from my grandson who is a freshman at NC State. “ Grandpa, looks like we’ve another rugby player in the family.” I played for 22 yrs and talked about it, but never intentionally recruited him to the sport. After one practice he played a bit in a 2nd side match. Had fun!

Bad week this week. The first of the first Sam Houston RFC rugby team’s players passed after a long fight with cancer. We played together in ‘73-76 or so. And just learned that Toni Price, the Austin Juke Joint Madonna, died on the 22nd. Damn!

The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s
