It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Over the years, I have given students in my classses microbially themed cookie cutters. Very few gave them a try. But I have to show off what a University of Canterbury #AoteroaMicronaut made (I know, "biscuits" not cookies). Beautiful work.

Translation for anyone curious about Swedish politics. They seem to have become so post truth and postmodern that we now have 8 parties dominated by nihilists. And yesterday the "liberals" admitted they preferred the Néo nazis in the Sweden democrats to the neoliberals in the "social democrats".

It sound confusing, bc it is. There are the following parties: -"Liberals" - hate liberalism, love fascism -"Sweden Democrats" - Actual Nazis (founded by an SS officer and used to dress up in leather uniforms and shout "sieg heil"). Hate Sweden. And democracy. - "Social democrats" - Neoliberals.

Hate socialism and refuse to ally with actual socialists (V). Dislike democracy. -"Christian democrats" - hate anything Jesus preached intensly. Believe in egocentrism and punishing the sick or poor. Hate democracy. -"Moderates" and "Center" parties : extremist neoliberals and fascists, resoectively

Tldr: "The trouble is, this image doesn’t do justice to what organisms really are and do." If you want to actually understand evolutionary biology, avoid this reductionist garbage, so massaged into concepts like "selfishness" even Dawkins himself admitted "cooperative gene" was equally correct.

Earth's best carbon sink is snot, Morty. Marine snow, falling clumps of mucus, poop and dead plankton, hauls six times more carbon to the deep when it's extra gooey, since bacteria can't chew through it. Your climate plan is a planet-sized sneeze. @science.org @scrippsocean.bsky.social day283.018

Do you like riddles(and molecular biology)? Maybe you can help me solve this one. We’ve found a short piece of DNA (a plasmid) present in almost all plague samples from the Second Plague Pandemic (1338-1840), but absent in all earlier or later plague cases. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Still trying to understand how Napster got shut down, but Anthropic is going public and still hasn’t paid us authors yet after stealing our work.

Between you and I, us both know that them don't care about we. That's just life, when conflating your subjects and your objects. (grammar policing 101 - somehow the more used to English I get, the more I do this mistake myself)

Hej!

This would be economically illiterate & environmentally disastrous - and makes us less secure: undermining efforts to reduce energy bills by reducing dependence on gas, increasing vulnerability to global dictators, driving climate emissions & knee capping a market that’s just beginning to take off
