Here's the thing. Pete Hegseth was manifestly unqualified to be Secretary of Defense. Yet only three Republicans voted against him and only one of the 50 who voted for him has said he regrets that vote. You need 67 to impeach. If democrats win 52 seats, they still need 15 votes.

2 of the 3 senators who voted against him would be gone (McConnell and Collins, if democrats are at 52) as would the person who said they regretted the vote (Tillis). So we are at 53 (with Murkowski). There is no way that 14 additional republicans are going to impeach him.

Desperation causes people to make mistakes. The mistakes get bigger as desperation grows. Michigan, Ohio, Alaska. Clearly Republicans are desperate. Voters don't like desperate.

Bill Clinton famously stated, "When people are feeling insecure, they'd rather have someone who is strong and wrong rather than somebody who is weak and right." Nothing says weakness more than desperation.

Todd Blache and Donald Trump think that Alaskans can's differentiate between Sullivan, Daniel J. Jr and Sullivan, Dan S. (registered republican, incumbent. Alaska responds. #latches #danmulligan

The State of Alaska has joined Mary Peltola's Motion to Compel Todd Blanche to Eat a Bag of Dicks. #danmulligan #latches

Alaska authorities strongly oppose the Trump DOJ’s attempted “interference” in the election. This is significant because there were concerns the state—which sought to DQ the second Sullivan—would take the same side. But it didn’t. Quite the contrary. buff.ly/EJHtDpX

He's the mayor of New York. Where is he supposed to play basketball? Cheesman Park? I bet at the end of this it turns out his security detail recommended the NYPD gym because it would be safe.

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

The judge gave the Department of Jihad until TODAY to respond to the motion to dismiss. The judge said the State of Alaska could respond today, if they want, but they don't have to. The judge said she would rule Thursday. #latches #danmulligan

abcnews.comJudge appears skeptical of DOJ's legal maneuvering in Alaska lawsuitThe judge handling the Justice Department's bid to block certification of Alaska's Senate race if the Republican narrowly loses showed skepticism of DOJ's legal strategy.

What did Flavio thing Trump was going to do? Call Brad Raffensperger and ask him to find 4,430,192 votes? Invade? This US can't win a war in Iran. The US is afraid to start a war with Cuba. Brazil is a lot bigger.

Jimmy Kimmel: What do you do when your presidency crashes and burns and may very well take Congress down along with it? You make a phone call to the totally stable Nicki Minaj. 😂

I may be naive, but I refuse to believe that the fascists will take over France or Germany as they are being kicked out of Hungary and Serbia.

Adam Schwarz@adamjschwarz.bsky.social

Hungarian PM Péter Magyar: "I have just spoken by phone with the leaders of the Students List, who won the elections in Serbia, to congratulate them... I assured them of Hungary’s support. I was delighted to hear how much strength our victory in April had given them during this difficult struggle."

Mary Peltola is one of a kind.

The thing about using the threat of nuclear destruction in a campaign ad is it only works if the other guy is the crazy one. It does not work if you are the crazy one. It just makes you look even crazier. That's why it worked for Lyndon Johnson and why I expect it will not work for Netanyahu.

Netanyahu Goes Into Full Panic Mode https://politicalwire.com/2026/10/26/netanyahu-goes-into-full-panic-mode/?ap=b

The thing about the ad is that it was pretty clear after a day that it was having the opposite of its intended effect. In a rational world, the candidate would pull the ad and apologize to staunch the bleeding. But instead both Trump and Vance doubled down on the ad so Ramaswamy did too.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

The Ramaswamy ad has pushed the largest newspaper in Ohio, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to reverse its position on endorsements. "A candidate who uses childhood sexual abuse as a weapon against the person who endured it has crossed a line that Ohioans should defend, whatever their party."

I think it's probably not healthy for the practice of democratic self-government that so many journalists don't take journalism seriously.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

I think this becomes quite understandable in the context of an international fascist movement that has swept much of the planet in a decade, with horrifying and very extreme consequences for the entire species

“Committed” isn’t the same as “invested.”⁣ Otherwise I'd be on Wall Street instead of a state mental hospital.

Just a reminder: “Committed” isn’t the same as “invested.”⁣ ⁣ Otherwise, I’d have already accomplished everything on my calendar. https://newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/how-to-spot-a-fake-trillion

You heard it folks, the technical term for the current state of climate is "gobsmackingly bananas."

Prof. Eliot Jacobson@climatecasino.net

I apologize for not being on top of this landmark crossing, but the global sea-surface temperature is once again in "gobsmackingly bananas" territory. The Climate 8-Ball says: uncharted territory dead ahead!

Lula's election has me weirdly depressed. An unpopular 80 year old, who everyone thought would lose, eking out a win against a fascist. It hits too close to home.

Like father like son. Maybe he will end up in the same cellblock.

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Nobody's shocked that Jason Miller is the one posting Bolsonaro's refusal to concede. Trumpworld isn't just watching Brazil, they're coordinating. Same playbook, same people, different country. The authoritarian network is global, and it's poison.

Apparently this speech was vetted about as well as the Acton mother commercial.

Vivek Ramaswamy's wife: Apparently, Vivek does not support women. Apparently, he is pro-child abuse. Apparently, he doesn't respect doctors.

Trump has said a lot of racist things. This is probably the most racist thing that wasn't a repost of someone else's racism.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Rally speaker: "Mike Rogers is an American. Abdul has a birth certificate. The birth certificate says he's a citizen of America. You know what? a birth certificate doesn't make you an American."

His father was racist. His was raised racist. His brand was racism in 2015, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. ... They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people." Clinton was right to condemn the deplorables.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

This is just pure racism. Republicans objectively are campaigning on little more than bigotry.

Another Brazilian election thread.

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

I haven’t slept a full night in three weeks ahead of the polls opening in Brazil today. I might be shouting into a void here, but if you can spare a few seconds to send good energy towards our elections today and for the largest country in South America to beat fascism, please do so. 🇧🇷

Important thread on the election in Brazil.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
