Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Ah, the "infrastructure glitch" strategy. It’s funny how the ghost in the machine always seems to share the same political leanings as the mayor. Digital sabotage is just the modern version of stealing the horses.

If Americans aren't voting early they're insane. Trump's is going to orchestra all kinds of "threats" and "fraud" and "emergencies" to shut down urban voting and his Supreme Court will let him. (I'll be reposting this on Nov. 3.)

Get ready: regarding voter suppression and other election interference, Brazil is also a dress rehearsal for election interference in the USA coming next.

I hate this 'winning at all costs is all that matters' approach to politics. Its not a game...put out your policies and messaging and let the populace decide which direction they want to go in Winning or losing shouldn't be seen as 'success or failure' (appreciate that is naive)

Lula has called for the arrest of two officials in connection with the election sabotage and asked to extend voting hours in places where the vote was suppressed

The governor of Bahia calls out the election sabotage, which has been reported in at least 10 states now, and demands extended voting hours. This is a shit show

Because in Brazil the president (when he is a leftist, of course) has legal limitations on what he can do in office while running for re-election. These limitations, of course, are ignored when the incumbent is a right-wing A-hole.

Some people aren't going to like this, but: A functioning democracy doesn't have to accept the results of an election tainted, defrauded, and delegitimized by such obvious corruption. If necessary, clear out the conspirators and do the election again.

Reminds me of something I heard recently… How the corruption is so vast with these fascist leaders that they have so much at stake, accountability & oversight so endangering, that they must protect it at all costs… Generational, why you see the Marcos’, Fujimoros’ return to power. Now Bolsanaros…

This is why I always always always vote early and in person. It is the method with the greatest probability that, if there is some obstacle to voting, I will still be able to do so. Everyone go vote right now if you haven't yet!

Bolsonaro is playing the right wing’s greatest hits: that is literally what they did in 1990 to deny Lula in Brazil’s first Presidential election. In due course, bus companies got a modest fine!

If you're Texas, you closed a bunch of polling places where you were afraid democrats would vote and now they've had hours+ waits for early voting in the hopes that they can keep a republican senator in the state. So yeah, they can do a hell of a lot.

no it's not, you're a moron. Not everything is about you. I wouldn't be shocked to see Trump do some insane shit with seating congress but this sort of campaign simply isnt possible in the US right now and you'd have to have a peanut brain to not understand

Good news: Republican politicians can't really suddenly cancel public transportation on election day because it already doesn't usefully exist in places they control.

It's not a dry anything, it's actually happening to millions of people. Their lives are not "practice" for the US, they are real people experiencing real life

It's like they know they're evil and people hate them, and yet like all narcissists, they still think they should be in charge anyway because they don't want the rules to apply to them.
