Hey followers! I’m currently part-time contracting at the wonderful convocation.design where I get to work on internet freedom and privacy/security projects but I’m also looking for other projects to fill me days that I’m not working for Convocation.

People like dhh don’t come from nowhere; they come from a culture where most men in tech expect to have their bad behaviour forgiven and far fewer are ready to apologise or hold each other to account. Enormous appreciation for those few

Matthew Garrett@mjg59.eicar-test-file.zip

A bit over 15 years ago, a speaker at a tech conference used a couple of slides that were inappropriately sexual given the conference's guidelines. Afterwards the speaker apologised, the organisers apologised, there were process improvements, and it shouldn't have been a big deal.

I’ve been struggling to put my finger on this, but @rachelandrew.co.uk has totally nailed why AI tutorial/educational content just isn’t the same (or as good!) as a human writer. (I’m not saying my writing isn’t flawed, but relevant context and framing is something I really work hard at!)

Penpot pals! Now I’m upright again, it’s time to plan another hands-on livestream. We’re returning to layouts… is there anything layout-related you want to learn in Penpot? Anything you struggle with? Something you want to see created from start to finish?

Background grids or grid layouts? They might look similar, but they work very differently. 📐 Background grids guide your alignment ⚡ Grid layouts automate it with responsive, CSS-based rules Learn when to use each in Penpot penpot.app/blog/backgro...

Designers, devs, open source advocates...this is a safe space! What’s that one thing in your day-to-day workflow that makes you want to cry? A painful handoff? Endless tasks? Tell us your pain. Big, small, weirdly specific… we want to hear it🥲 Drop your tears below💧

This ended up being longer than I intended, but hopefully there’s lots of useful info in there if you’re new to grids in design, grids in @penpot.app, and the difference between background grids and grid layouts #penpot penpot.app/blog/backgro...

One week since my surgery and I’m so happy. The nerve pain was gone the second I woke up. Today I took an 8 minute walk, no pain, for the first time in 6 months. The hardest part now is restraining myself so I can recover properly!

Anyone here had a lumbar discectomy? I’m having the surgery in 6 days and I’m a bit nervous! Not so much about the surgery itself or general anaesthetic, but the stay in hospital and what the recovery will involve. I’d appreciate any insight or advice from people with experience!

A great event to speak at or just be at!

It's often uneasy for me to share my experiences as a woman in tech, but this job market has me worried for everyone stuck somewhere harmful. I admire everyone who takes on "women in tech" speaking gigs but I am also angry for them and us. ohhelloana.blog/woman-in-tec...

Folks, you don't need AI to check color contrasts. You also don't need AI, to get suggestions for colors that pass the contrast ratio. It's pure, good, old math formula. Not everything needs to be "AI". Also, here are many, color contrast tools and more to help you build accessible color palettes:

I'd like to acknowledge that part of you that doesn't think you're ready to give a talk and say that you are. #id24 is a great way to share your knowledge with a global audience, and we'd love to have you pitch us.

Inclusive Design 24 (#id24)@inclusivedesign24.bsky.social

Hey #accessibility #a11y #inclusiveDesign folks: you still have until the end of this month (31 May 2026) to propose a presentations for this year's #id24 in September inclusivedesign24.org/2026/ Reminder: as it's a global event, we'd also be delighted to have talks in languages other than English.

I am so sorry to say that I can't make the Accessibility Ireland event next week, as I'm not able to travel right now. Hopefully we'll be able to postpone it for later in the year!

In related news, after months of back pain, it turns out I have a badly bulging disc with a generous side portion of sciatica. If anybody needs me, I'll be lying on the floor.

Excellent news and classic, wonderful @wil.to writing.
