Last year @tega.bsky.social and I contributed an essay to the book "Are You a Software Update". For our research, we scraped the names, descriptions, and funding totals of around 17,000 "AI" companies from crunchbase. You can explore this sad, searchable archive for yourself at aicompanies.labr.io

my favorite 'ai' company is probably "Labs": a "superintelligence Human-enhancement technology supercompany". They make a "Social-Taste Superapp" (!!!!!) called "Yuhmmy". We live in a golden age!

happy tax day

A form which calculates an individual’s “income tax body count”, or the total number of conflict-related deaths they have caused through their income tax contributions to the U.S. government. income-tax-body-count.lav.io

Deaths from conflicts involving the U.S. military are totaled for every year between 2001 and 2025. Each conflict has an estimated minimum and maximum death total based on available data. Maximum death estimates include an estimate of indirect as well as direct deaths.

I'm co-teaching a 2-day in-person workshop at @sfpc.study: "How To Find What You Are Looking For". sfpc.study/sessions/spr... "How can data collection be leveraged for liberatory, poetic, or critical ends? How can artists make use of techniques deployed by private investigators?"

sfpc.studySchool for Poetic ComputationThe School for Poetic Computation is an experimental school in New York City supporting interdisciplinary study in art, code, hardware and critical theory. It's a place for learning and unlearning.

I'll be showing web scraping tools and techniques, and my co-teacher Maura Brewer, who's a an artist AND private investigator, will cover some more manual investigative techniques.

Most carbon footprint calculators determine carbon impacts based on consumption and lifestyle. But through the Offset project I got interested in the relationship between income and emissions: is it possible to calculate impacts based solely on income levels? And what would those calculations imply?

Offset Marketplace is a new project in collaboration with @tega.bsky.social. We calculate the carbon savings of industrial sabotage, package these savings into carbon credits, and sell them as certificates. Profits are then donated back to the activists responsible for the actions. offset.labr.io

The certificates are 11x11 inch archival quality prints covering a range of direct actions that have occurred in the last few years. Buy one today!
