When reality surpasses fiction! Top: fictional forecast for August 2050, broadcast by French TV in 2014 to warn about the consequences of global warming. Bottom: Real French forecast for yesterday, June 22, 2026.

Genuinely baffled by people who sincerely believe that being against AI data center development means you're a NIMBY. Might as well call the Standing Rock protesters NIMBYs too. A data center is not a house or park. It doesn't improve the community. It's purely infrastructure for extracting value.

The New School was founded by Columbia University professors who wanted a university run by the faculty with minimal administration. For over 100 years it has been a unique institution with progressive values and incredible students and faculty from Ai Weiwei to Hannah Arendt. We are devastated.

Last week, the New School issued voluntary separation & early retirement offers to 40% of the full-time faculty & the majority of non-union staff. These cuts to the bone are an ideological attempt to decimate historic spaces of critical inquiry & social justice. Share our statement tr.ee/qQBIDCpIuj

Reminder that Starbucks’ CEO made 6,666x more than the company's median employee in 2024. This was the widest CEO-to-Worker pay gap in the entire S&P 500. And we're supposed to believe Starbucks can't afford to bargain a fair contract with its unionized workers?

Here's something I wrote about "unconventional" carbon credits, making the world's first (??) income-based carbon footprint calculator, and trying to determine the avoided emissions benefit of Brian Thompson's homicide. lav.io/notes/carbon...

Got off a call from openai this wk about their unpaid artist "fellowship" program involving getting access to the sora api so you can explore "what might be possible." Like u gotta be kidding me, this the worlds biggest start up valued at 500 BILLION & they cant even do a paid fellowship program 😱

Offset Marketplace is a new project in collaboration with @tega.bsky.social. We calculate the carbon savings of industrial sabotage, package these savings into carbon credits, and sell them as certificates. Profits are then donated back to the activists responsible for the actions. offset.labr.io

A lot of people think that every international student admitted means one fewer spot for domestic students, when the opposite is more likely true - the tuition revenue international students bring allows public universities to provide substantial discounts to domestic students, improving access.
