I'm really against the remake industrial complex so in my opinion there is no need for a Hollywood remake similar to this 1997 version - it stands up really well today, it has levity, it has gods, it has sex, it has heart-wrenching performances as Penelope and Antykleia. This is the film many seek.

Marianne & I are deeply grateful to the good people of The Pipeline for giving us space to voice our views over what has been happening behind the scenes at the EAA. Please do give it a watch/listen and share widely - we feel it's important as many people as possible know the full story 🙏🏼

Supported by the British Council and UK Government, the EAMENA project cannot be dismissed as activist agitprop, which makes its conclusions about the IDF's damage to heritage sites in Gaza all the more damning in a way which should provide food for thought for Archaeologists, not least the #EAA.

EAMENA@eamena.bsky.social

Our new report on satellite imagery assessment of damage to heritage sites in the Gaza Strip is online. This analysis records widespread damage across the territory & lists only 100 of the 524 sites listed on the EAMENA database as being in a ‘Good’ or ‘Fair’ condition. 🔗 eamena.org/article/remo...

It is with deep sadness that Dr Marianne Moen and I resigned our positions as Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Archaeology this morning. What follows is the letter we sent to the EAA's executive board, outlining the reasons for our resignation 1/n

Well... A reminder of Jan vote: Motion A: 67% (486 members) agreed to exclude Israeli institutions (not individuals) from participating in EAA AMs until the end of the genocide in Palestine ends [paraphrased] 1/2 www.e-a-a.org/EAA/News___P...

Weird time - a ton of people whom I always considered "young'uns" are defending their dissertations in the past weeks/ coming months. Including a former student! Starting to feel old (and proud). 👩‍🦳

You probably know that ICE agents shot Renee Good. You should also know what happened next.

"ICE has waged a recruitment drive drenched in war metaphors and martial imagery. The type of person sought...is someone with a fervor for guns and an eagerness to apply violence." Good work by @aselrod.bsky.social putting shooting in context of MAGA's violent ethos: www.ms.now/opinion/ice-...

ms.nowOpinion | ICE's violence is no accidentAlan Elrod: The killing of a woman by an immigration enforcement officer in Minneapolis was the raw application of Trumpist authoritarianism.

I had many big plans for this winter break, but there is a lot that did not get done. I realize that if I had done all of those things, I would have had a winter break like many previous - one that was not a break at all. My to do list is long but I actually feel rested for the first time in years.

The only less productive break was last year, after my father's passing - but that obviously was not restful. After a couple of weeks tackling things I put off for literal YEARS, I feel accomplished, happy, and most importantly - ready to tackle the rest of that to do list gradually and happily!

This charming crab is waving goodbye to 2025. One of many marine images around a lost figure of Neptune (a wheel from his chariot survived) under what is now Gloucester House in Dyer Street, Cirencester. This image was the most popular of my #MosaicMonday offerings this year! #AncientBlueSky 🏺

Really want to read more for pleasure in 2026, but my pleasure-leisure time in 2025 was very focused on knitting... which also brings me great joy. I struggle a bit with audiobooks, but maybe it's the way to do both. Any tips for someone adjusting to audiobooks for the first time??

Nerdy and niche ask this morning but do I know any classicists/ archaeologists who are also knitters and make their own colourwork charts? I have a vision right now to make some motifs I see often in my research into charts... but not sure how to bring this to life...
