abnormal tropical moisture surge

#ICYMI | Forecasters are tracking an abnormal tropical moisture surge that could deliver extreme rain rates to parts of the state through late Thursday. What to know: https://www.khon2.com/weather-blog/hawaii-monsoon-heavy-rain-outlook/

They think doubling down helps with their base but it inflames us. I just donated to Acton…she’s running for governor in a state I don’t live in. And while I was at it I donated to six other races. The guy in KS got a donation because he said “Ukraine is defending itself” during the debate.

As I figured, Acton was telling the truth the whole time, and Vivek Ramaswamy remains the worst person. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Ethiopia is so close to Russia, I can see that they would let this slide. And who knows, the target wasn’t Ethiopian so maybe they don’t care.

Uninvited guest: How a GRU spy connected to state hackers broke into the African Union’s diplomatic residence in Ethiopia A video version of the latest investigation by @dobrokhotov.bsky.social and @michaeldweiss.bsky.social.

The article says that Russia’s military attache’ to Ethiopia was expelled from Portugal in 2022 because of his GRU connections. That’s a data point to support the idea that many of the spies kicked out of Europe after Russia invaded Ukraine went to African and Latin American countries.

The “super intelligence” that told me to drive from Chicago to the Badlands with stops in 8 hours. And oh yeah thenU.S. killed over 150 Iranian children using it. Seems like “super intelligence” would have known not to bomb the school.

Soon Ukraine will be a foreign aid powerhouse helpfully hosting military and anti-corruption trainings for countries like the United States.

⚡️Ukraine's anti-corruption agency uncovers criminal group protecting scam call centers, allegedly led by a top prosecutor. The group allegedly received systematic bribes in exchange for allowing fraudulent call centers to operate without interference.

A few people in my life just assume I don’t drink liquor. They offer single malt and mezcal offred to my husband but not me. Maybe not the most important feminist issue when we’ve just lost Gloria Steinem but geez….

Checking out parent corporations of assisted living places and find out that one of them is owned by Lloyd Jones whose mission is “Helping investors build wealth through real estate” and they describe themselves as a “private equity firm focused on senior living”.

OTD in 2008 Poland’s President Lech Kaczyński was in Georgia, which Russia had just invaded, and said “today Georgia, tomorrow Ukraine”. He was told he was “stuck in a Cold War mentality” and ignored.

Blue Cross had refused to pay thousands of claims for the center’s patients, but on several occasions executives at the insurance company had signed special one-time deals with the center to pay for their wives’ cancer treatment. (Published April 2025)

propublica.org“Slow Pay, Low Pay or No Pay”: Trial Reveals How Insurers Try to Wield Power Over DoctorsBlue Cross authorized mastectomies and breast reconstructions for women with cancer but refused to pay the full doctors’ bills. A jury called it fraud and awarded the practice $421 million.

I’m really lucky that although I’ve had cancer twice, I haven’t needed chemotherapy. So I can confidently say that insurance paperwork is the worst part of my cancer journey. Thanks GEHA/United Health Care!

On the very long list of things I would do if I was president who had a spineless Congress who would do almost anything I wanted: No more surveys every time I call customer service. If I’m unhappy with service it’s usually the company policies, not the employees. Those surveys won’t change policy.

Lessons in how to live correctly: one of the guys replacing the siding on our condo eats lunch in the shade of my front yard…he sits in a lawn chair and fires up a small propane powered comal that can fit one tortilla. He sits in his chair, cooking the tortillas one at a time, flipping them often,

then he stuffs them with filling from a Tupperware container. I like it that he has a system so he doesn’t have to compromise on lunch. Just cuz you work construction doesn’t mean you have to eat cold tortillas!

Reading this book would be a good way to pay tribute. It’s incredibly moving and also fascinating to learn what it takes to unearth a mass grave and preserve evidence for war crime trials. thebonewoman.com

Remembering Srebrenica@srebrenicauk.bsky.social

On 11 July, we remember. We remember the more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys murdered in the Srebrenica genocide. We honour survivors, victims’ families and the Mothers of Srebrenica, and we stand against hatred, division &denial. We’ll never forget. #Srebrenica31
