If contractors should pay the same tax as employees Then employees should pay the same tax as contractors If #IR35 is correct taxation then by that logic employees are dodging a hell of a lot of tax

If you could devise a policy that meant big business could absorb most of the work, overcharge for it, send many of those roles abroad — and maybe the profits too — while passing business costs onto the worker on a fixed term zero rights basis You’d have thought the left would be against it! #IR35

Had a suspicion that perminant roles are being turned into inside ir35 roles for a while now Finally after seeing ones which had a whiff off it, I’ve now got the first one which clearly shows it happening Classic backfire effect of the employee rights act

Not easy in this country to be both centre right on the economy and centre left socially at the best of times - but fucking hell

1/2 It's starting to very much look like what should be permanent jobs are now starting to be offered on an Inside IR35 basis.

2/2 Normally I'd complain, but given how many people think that fixed term zero rights employment with business costs coming out of personal remuneration was acceptable, I'm actually glad they'll see how exploitative it is, and may we finally get a reasonable solution to the IR35 fiasco.

No idea how many would even see this let alone read it, but just thought I’d let everyone know what Project Hail Mary is bloody brilliant!

If anyone wants a billion £ idea, the invent an app which stops the iPhone “autocorrect” turning correct English into incorrect English and just works on words that are actually spelt incorrectly.

If I hear/see the words "fair", "fairness", "fairer" by a politician again in an attempt to quell critical thinking I'm not sure I can be responsible for my actions!

The failure of today can be summed up by A is working badly B is not A Therefore B is correct No reference to C, D, E or even that A is the best of a series of bad options.

“Fairness” is clearly the government’s nebulous word of the moment to stop people critically thinking about ideological decisions

Idea for the Budget – IR35 is meant to make contractors pay the same tax as employees, then fairness says employees should start paying tax on the £1000s of gear, software, and business travel contractors fund themselves — or better yet, cover the full costs out of their own pocket too.

Permanent jobs are increasingly being rebadged as inside-IR35 contracts. I hope those who backed this system get to feel what it’s like to be taxed as employees, stripped of rights, and exploited by umbrella firms — just to grasp the damage they caused.

If I’m honest, I don’t want anyone to experience this, but if it’s the only way to get empathy and morality back for this then so be it!

When you live in an area where rich pensioners moan about the WFP whilst drinking their 10th expensive latte of the week before getting into their BMWs to go back to their houses worth £500,000 which they bought for £5 in the 70s (yes some hyperbole there) means testing it doesn’t sound too bad.

Don’t get me wrong, the cut off was way too low when they first did it. But not all pensioners are frail. Many are part of the richest cohort to retire. The WFP is for those in need it’s not a lifestyle supplement.

I deeply suspect in a few years we’ll see a variation on this statement said often - “Though framed as a moral necessity, the policy underdelivered and proved counterproductive”

Love the John Wick film series, but Ballerina isn’t quite up there with the main series. Ana De Armas is excellent as ever though. Not a bad film, more a missed opportunity.

Surely there’s some kind of research or academic study out there exploring why people confidently walk up and talk to someone who’s clearly wearing ear pods/phones.

Apparently, it’s possible to be heard over whatever the other person is listening to, without expecting them to pause or take the ear pods/phones out.

It’s baffling how often this happens, as if the presence of ear pods/phones and the fact they deliver some sort of sound just doesn’t register or matter

This season of Doctor Who has been the best it’s been in years. Today’s episode requires immediate discussion. However that’s a curse of always being up early on a Saturday when sensible folks take time for a lie in .

This my boy Indy, he’s 3 1/2 years old He wants only two things in life To be a good boy, and to one day hold two tennis balls in his mouth I’m loving every moment I’m spending with him as we nearly lost him to pneumonia last month Enjoy every moment you can with your pets - they’re worth it!

Have been reading this for a few weeks. Reading has been slow in recent weeks as my dog has been close to dying (he’s not full cured by out of immediate danger). This is a fascinating read on how the world has gotten to such a mess - and something I’ve been saying for 20 years…

Two fiction books in a row… I’ve been dying to read this since I finished the Fleming novels… very glad I dugbout a copy when I was in Paris

Since my last book post I’ve read Character Limit about Elmo from the hell site - didn’t want to darken here with a photo of the South African Goering. I then read my wife’s book which was an all together more pleasant experience, but I’ve already posted about that on here

Written by very talented other half, this is her 3rd book and is out today. This one has some seriously big name authors backing it, and many excellent reviews!

I’ve been struggling to decide what to post on here for ages… but as I always post what book I’m reading elsewhere this seems appropriate - especially as Douglas Adams os the finest humour writer of all time!

I will eventually post something on here. Just starting to cope with recent ASD and ADHD diagnosis and it’s taken up most of my mental capacity

You are up to date.
