TLDR:

Left Pocket@leftpocketstudio.bsky.social

I think the biggest things I think about with JRPG vs Western RPG is that JRPG is a defined genre of game while WRPG isnt Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Persona, Trails, all have commonalities with them while The Elder Scrolls, The Witcher, Modern Assassins Creed, Fable, and other just dont

This is what the kids call flanderaztion

One thing I hate about how rigid #anime fighting game rosters have become is that #JoJo fans look at you like you're fucking insane for thinking Bruford and Santana should be playable They look at you like you just asked for Wired Beck and Doobie to be in the game

17 June

like if fucking Mariah can be in the game why shouldn't they be? they put fucking Yuya Fungami in ASBR Look me dead in the eyes and tell he deserve a spot in the game more than Bruford THE GUY FROM THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT FIGHT IN PART 1

To companies slapping the RPG label onto anything with an XP bar In the modern day RPG just means long game with upgrades I see people try and argue that Red Dead, GTA, The Last of Us, Spider-Man (PS4), and Ghost of Tsushima are RPGs

It just leaves a sour taste in my mouth seeing a million "RPGs" get announced a year while we only get like one RPG with actual with no true preset Role-Playing like every 2-3 years

Its the same reason when people talk about great JRPGs they never mention Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and Dragons Dogma its because they arent JRPGs theyre are just "RPGs" JRPG got to define its self as a genre while WRPG didnt

WRPG should have gotten defined with Character Creation and choice making (whether the choices were gameplay choices like TES or story ones like Dragon Age) But unfortunately Oblivion and Skyrim both being comically successful and The same for The Witcher lead

I love when "new-age" fans of something old go onto the main subreddit and use "new-age" terminology because 80% of the comments on this post are just "what the fuck is hetgem."
