The Narnia trailer is extremely pretty. Love starry Aslan. I wouldn't have started with Magician's Nephew, but I can see the argument for it. My only question is, where's the Wood btw the Worlds? Did I miss it?! That's what the people are here for ...

I suggested to my daughter that she read BRIDESHEAD REVISITED, and she said 'that sounds like old-person slop,' and now nothing is safe

Somehow I’ve ended up having to translate 120 or so lines of Gawain and the Green Knight from Middle English into modern, keeping the rhymes/rhythms/alliterations, and I definitely should not be doing it—because I'm totally unqualified—but it’s so much fun. Like D&D meets a crossword

Every day, like many times a day, I mentally complain to the person who made the PASTE AND MATCH STYLE combo (shift/option/command/V) in Pages so difficult. WHY MAKE SOMETHING SO USEFUL SO HARD

Virginia Woolf a front-runner for 20th century’s most relatable genius. From her diary: Thursday 16 January (1936) Seldom have I been more completely miserable than I was about 6.30 last night, reading over the last part of The Years. Such feeble twaddle—such twilight gossip it seemed ...

... such a show up of my own decrepitude, & at such huge length. I could only plump it down on the table & rush up stairs with burning cheeks to L. He said This always happens. But I felt, no it has never been so bad as this …

The audiobook for @levgrossman.com ‘s “The Bright Sword” is so good that I’m not sure if I should alternate with the book. It *feels* like a novel so joyfully in conversation with the Matter of Britain *ought* to be an oral telling. But I’m an impatient & greedy reader. #booksky #specfic

This is the first and only chapter of The World in the Walls, Book One of the Fillory and Further series by Christopher Plover, which are the books-within-the-books of the Magicians trilogy. I wish I could write more, but I can’t open.substack.com/pub/levgross...

My wife is doing a podcast episode on T.S. Eliot and I said I don’t know much about Eliot but Alfred J. Prufrock was the worst Flintstones character ever

Hooray!

THE GOD OF SLEEP was inspired by my love of mythology and the nonsense poems of Edward Lear. Picture books are very much a word-of-mouth business, so if you have or know a child who likes rhymes or beautiful drawings or polytheism, consider mentioning THE GOD OF SLEEP to them and/or their parents!

In 2010 I was at Facebook headquarters to write a Person of the Year profile of Mark Zuckerberg for Time. Halfway through my reporting I was badly stuck for a lede, until I was sitting in a staff meeting that Zuckerberg was running ...

… and in walked a tall guy with grey hair and a military bearing and gave Zuckerberg a hearty handshake. It was Robert Mueller. There was something weirdly historic and fated about that moment. Good enough for a lede anyway. Feels even moreso now.

(BTW this is typical of the Gump-like existence I led during my tenure at Time -- I was always turning up looking confused in the background of scenes involving famous people)

There are days when you feel like a fraud and wonder what the point of it all is. And then there's a day when you get a shout-out from Lin-Manuel Miranda on The Hamilcast

Semi-regular reminder that THE GOD OF SLEEP is coming out March 24! Booklist just reviewed it: "Grossman’s first foray into picture books is a beauty. The lovely lilting text features clever rhymes and gentle humor, and the inventive illustrations burst with vibrant hues and darling detail."

(I'm posting about it here partly b/c I've never published a picture book before and don't really know how to get the word out about it. So if you have a small child who likes rhymes and irritable gods, well, have I got the book for you.)

It's a small thing but wow, getting a new podcast off the ground -- with no corporate or institutional support -- is a heavy lift. Even tiny things count!

I never realized till a kind soul pointed it out that my name is in the credits of KNIGHT OF THE 7 KINGDOMS. Bragging rights, how I love them
