Pretty incredible how Bluesky does two things no other major social network does: 1. Show content from people you follow 2. Don’t deprioritize posts with links The “incredible” part is how ads-driven social networks & ones optimizing for “engagement” stopped doing either.

We want Bluesky to be a great home for journalists, publishers, and creators. Unlike other platforms, we don't de-promote your links. Post all the links you want — Bluesky is a lobby to the open web.

Un avantage de l'écosystème opensource de bluesky! Il y a quelque chose à faire en France aussi pour nos politiques et autres personnalités médiatiques @guillaume.champeau.info @bonpote.com @arretsurimages.net @dschneidermann.bsky.social

I am utterly delighted by this subversive use of the Bluesky label feature, where you can subscribe to a custom app that then adds visible labels to profiles This one shows you which posh expensive private school British public figures attended, plus their current fees bsky.app/profile/dadd...

My latest labeler is finally working! What it shows for each politician - 3 labels for the top corp donators - 3 labels for the top industries that donate to them Subscribe to this labeler to be more aware of the interests our politicians represent 🚀 bsky.app/profile/us-g...

In case you missed it: Bluesky runs on-prem. They migrated off of AWS months back. So yeah, they DO need to put orders in for servers! (Good luck to the dev team!) More on their architecture: newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/bluesky

newsletter.pragmaticengineer.comBuilding Bluesky: a Distributed Social Network (Real-World Engineering Challenges)Bluesky is built by around 10 engineers, and has amassed 5 million users since publicly launching in February this year. A deep dive into novel design decisions, moving off AWS, and more.

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day. The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.

Simple & straightforward overview of how ATProto works. bsky.app/profile/samu...

Samuel@samuel.fm

ok, let's break it down. at the core of atproto is the data. it lives own your own computer (or someone hosts it for you). think of it as a hard drive with JSON files on it data is structured (i.e. has a type), and can references other records on other peoples' computer with a URI like a hyperlink

And the main reasons for this appear to be a disunite left-wing opposition party in Europe and a mismanagement of the economy by neoliberal centre-right parties which also strongly disregard and nip in the bud any possible economic model alternative. blogs.lse.ac.uk/lseupr/2024/... 2/2

Wow SO MANY interesting people tech folks in the replies. And even more useful thematic “starter packs” linked in replies (eg Android engineers, eng managers, infrastructure engineers, geospatial engineers etc). If you are looking for interesting techies to follow: look at replies 👇

Gergely Orosz@gergely.pragmaticengineer.com

I'd love to follow more software engineers (and folks working closely with devs: e.g. in product, design, data etc) My problem: it's hard to find these people! And many devs don't (yet) have details in their bios. If this is you, can you please add a reply and a short description of what you do?

You are up to date.
