Really enjoyed writing this quick intro to sustainability in #GP #primarycare for the Irish College of GPs. Lots of opportunities for carbon reduction: 1. Optimising inhalers (reducing prescribing of Ventolin & solo Saba) 2. Deprescribing 3. Plant based diets & active travel #sustainability

Trigger warning. “In crashes, SUVs are more likely to strike vital organs in the core of adults’ bodies & heads of children. Hitting pedestrians above their center of gravity means they’re more likely to be knocked forward & down and then be driven over.” Plus more likely to hit in the 1st place.

“The rise in high-fronted SUVs poses a clear and growing threat to public safety, especially for children,” states the report. “With no benefit to society, it’s time for lawmakers at all levels to act.” Via @carltonreid.com in @forbes.com. Cap SUV/truck hood heights. And ban unsafe designs.

New statement from Irish foreign minister Simon Harris: "There is a genocide taking place in Gaza and the findings of the UN Commission of Inquiry earlier this week make clear that this is the case. The need for action has never been more urgent. In fact, it is long past due."

This is phenomenal. Incredibly grateful to @irishspacegal.bsky.social for this focus article on the strides being made in space medicine in Ireland. Brilliant to be able to highlight some of the cool things happening in...this space. Had to be done. www.irishtimes.com/science/spac...

A few weeks ago the Irish College of GPs allowed me to introduce 'Green tip of the Week' to all of their staff and I am delighted with the feedback so far. I'm going to start sharing the green tips here on Blue sky and open to feedback on what people find useful. #sustainability #climate #health

Most Irish people are unaware that Ireland is one of the biggest importers of Israeli goods. Teva pharmaceuticals are a large part of the medications dispensed in Ireland.

As our kids go #BackToSchool, never forget that we ARE the traffic that we’re afraid of. If more kids walked, biked or rode transit to school, it would erase a massive number of car trips each day, and our kids would be safer, healthier and better at school. HT Ian Lockwood. Spread the word.

I haven’t seen it illustrated like this before. Very effective messaging. Of course it actually depends a lot on how fast the vehicle’s being driven, how big the vehicle is and how it’s designed, and how small the victims (too often kids) are. Via @yegbike.bsky.social #SpeedKills #CarBloat

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

Remember, when it comes to the actual likelihood that a vehicle crash will occur at all, AND whether the consequences of a crash are serious, or even deadly, or not, speed is ALWAYS a factor. Including when the legal speed limits are currently too high. #SpeedKills #VisionZero

There’s a TON of evidence that bigger, higher vehicles are far more likely to kill somone they hit, crushing vital organs & pushing victims under. But never forget, their weight, height & sightlines also make it far more likely that they’ll hit someone in the first place. HT @transenv.bsky.social
