27.2 fixed a bug where you couldn't drag windows to the top of the screen in mission control to make the fullscreen. Thank god

toastytech.com/ is one of those sites I come back to every once in a while and it's seemingly down now. Hope nothing is wrong :( I always loved the GUI gallery there! Maybe Bill Gates finally got back at Nathan Lineback for all those 88x31 buttons he made…

LisaGUI now has solitaire. Drag a deck of cards from the Desk Accessories disk in the upper right menu. #solitaire #retrocomputing #JavaScript #appleLisa #microsoftWindows

Embedding just a few small images into documents really does make a difference. I can see why that whole "desktop publishing" idea took off in the 80s.

Images can now be embedded into LisaType documents. The first time images are pasted, they are scaled to fit LisaGUI's current aspect ratio. This can be toggled in LisaType using an option in the Edit menu. #appleLisa #javascript

(Specifically, the current aspect ratio setting of the LisaType document, which by default is whatever the system is set to - 2:3 by default)

Keep in mind the auto-scaling only adjusts for the pixel aspect ratio. I still have to add some code to downscale really large images; I'm not sure how they will break documents yet, so be careful what you paste for now, lol

#Safari used to run on Windows. Reminds me… remember when #apple were the underdogs who cared about cross-platform standards (because, being the underdogs, they *had* to)?

Trash bulging is now toggleable. This wasn't originally a Lisa feature, so I feel it should be something you can turn off if you want more authenticity.

aside from adding the worst fonts known to man to LisaGUI I also fixed some REALLY important bugs and other issues

did you know, dear reader, I had an arbitrary cap on the size of objects in the compositing engine, as well as arbitrary upper/lower bounds on coordinates? well those are gone now, and so if you tried making a really long text document and had issues scrolling, then those issues should be fixed

PAPYRUS! may god have mercy on my soul #papyrus #appleLisa #typography #fonts #JavaScript

One should not underestimate the astonishing team effort required to stretch and resize windows to match the ever growing scope of our ambitions. Let us all be thankful to our beloved UI daemons, tirelessly keeping our frames aligned with our dreams. #mainframes #gamedev #pixelart #animation

there. PROBLEM SOLVED. otherwise, if you can think of a better, more elegant solution, reply to this or email me #appleLisa #JavaScript #ui #ux #gui #userinterface #icons

I tried ONLY straightening out the icons which were out-of-bounds, and it made even more of a mess of things

LisaGUI's next update will introduce a change to serialization which breaks the formatting for existing typefaces in LisaType documents. However, I promise the additional features in the update will more than make up for it.

Mission control and spaces in Golden Gate are absurdly buggy. Dragging windows to the top bar in exposé doesn't even make them fullscreen. Desktop switching is a bit broken too; sometimes fullscreen windows remain overlaid on top of other desktops when you try to swipe away from them.

The Finder is buggy. Double-clicking folders doesn't always open them, and sometimes opening folders can take up to a second. I guess this is why it's still best to wait for the .1 or .2 release…

Looking much better... #typography #appleLisa #apple #retrocomputing #JavaScript

Filling in the ink traps/light traps of these Lisa typefaces. Typographers: forgive me, but it must be done. It's too unsightly.

LisaGUI’s piano is partially based on the Lisa Toolkit example. I was also inspired by the Macintosh’s piano demo from the “MOUSING AROUND” tutorial on the original “Guided Tour of Macintosh” disk from 1984. #appleLisa #macintosh #apple #1bit #pcspeaker

The Lisa had high res copies of its fonts used when printing at a higher quality setting. Debating whether to implement this feature, or if I should use larger fonts as extra options at the same DPI. Leaning heavily towards the latter. #typography #fonts #retrocomputing #appleLisa #apple #1bit

Using larger font sizes will mean options for 28pt, 36pt, and 48pt fonts. Otherwise, 24pt would be the largest, for now. Typographically, it will be a bit awkward since the line weights of the 28pt fonts are designed for a 14pt font, for instance.

Using base64 for inline image serialization now. It's kind of cool how you can sort of see the image through the encoding.

...And yes, I serialized this. So sue me! The current codebase doesn't have any graphics primitives; I didn't really need any... Obviously I'll be adding those in once I write a real painting app; then I'll just redraw these every time and shave a few kilobytes off the main script.

Fixed some minor formatting issues with the latest blog post. Also, accidentally reverted it to a version from several hours ago when I was trying to fix them on my phone. I hadn't noticed my phone's browser had cached the older, incomplete post. That's fixed too, thank God

Updated the blog to use GNU Unifont for the body text. I adjusted the colors for the light and dark themes; I'm still playing around with them so don't hate it too much
