local media field reporters are reporting ‘hot’ news selfie-style on their phones, and also recording news selfie videos in studio as well. It’s awful. There is a camera operator standing right there in the unemployment line, please bring back professional journalism and news casting.

“If you go to a legislator and the first thing they say is, ‘When I was a kid,’ you’re dead. They haven’t been in a library. People need to understand the impact we have, what kind of difference we make, and translate that into funding.” Veronda Pitchford, San Francisco, Calif. Califa Group
We asked dozens of librarians about America’s libraries — what they provide, what they need to survive. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
And now i’ve gone out an ordered another book…
Another book I’m eager to read is Humans: A Monstrous History by @drsurekhadavies.bsky.social A history of monster making- how do we imagine and create monsters, and what does that say about who we are? Really looking forward to digging into this one. www.ucpress.edu/books/humans...
Also, WHOMST is selling to these goons?!!
“For authors: Is this the moment to cash out? For investors: Is there still enough overlooked value in the backlist to make the bet pay off? And for Hollywood: What happens when literary IP starts trading like an asset class?” That last one isn’t just for hollywood. It’s for all of us.

Like music catalogs, literary estates are now targeted by private equity Langston Hughes’ literary estate now belongs to International Literary Properties, which says a Harlem Renaissance licensing program is next on its list
condolences to us all because we already know the agenda of the next appointee. Meanwhile theyre trying to tear apart Section 106 and IMLS funding. Don’t be surprised when we find the American collections in museums and private holdings around the globe.
Horrendous news. The recent governmental loss of intellect, kindness, and dedication to historical inquiry is unparalleled in US history. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/08/a...
Jokes on them when they need to drink the pool water, but I guess the upside is they’ll have a built in skate park
No, I don't want to live in a fucking tomb where I can't go outside ever again and the world has been destroyed, no, not even if it has an indoor pool The lack of imagination of these idiots is pitiable, unimaginable, this is what comes of not reading On the Beach when you are 12 or whatever
“Instead of focusing on the money an individual makes through college, we can consider what’s good for society.” higher education≠trade school. There is room for both. We need both. In fact, some people study at university and despite that can still weld, fix cars, put up drywall, repair a roof…
Red State Universities: we believe in indoctrination and job training Students: we hate that is there another option? Blue State Universities: we promise to have no values except job training. It ain’t enough. My latest. Gift link.
this is the kind of guy who will say “reform” and then either do nothing to reform anything or throw money at the problem without a plan for actually abolishing it or changing it.
Jeffries stop short of committing to holding a vote to abolish ICE is he's House Speaker next January, but says he's "committed to dramatically reforming ICE ... the masks should come off, body cameras should come on, judicial warrants should be required."

I will add to this that ‘first-gen’ might need to be extended to the children of first-gen because first-gen doesn’t necessarily mean you got all the privileges of university or that social class. And more so if your first-gen degrees parent was a single parent or non-traditional student.
Relatedly, even when Black people have “elite”-coded jobs/education, we are often the only ones in our extended family living in such socioeconomic conditions. Parents aren’t giving us down-payments on a house or paying for our weddings. If anything, we’re helping everyone else out. And gladly.
Gentle reminder to fund your librarians and librarians. It’s fine to call them hero’s and imagine them saving the world, but it’d be better if they were funded while doing so.
"They just want to turn it off." A fascinating story of the librarians who have started teaching classes showing people how to remove AI "features" from their phones and apps. www.bangordailynews.com/2026/07/02/m...
And, with rising deaths. I believe we are up to 51 known names of detained deaths. Obviously the number is likely higher, but with lack of real oversight we may never know the real numbers.
I can't imagine the soullessness necessary to transform the abduction of thousands of people by a masked secret police force, their disappearance into jails and private concentration camps, and the terrorizing and occupying of communities across the country, into "remarkable operational results."
We know how this process plays out in the long run and how it impacts so much more than researcher /user access. www.kqed.org/news/1208890...
These robotic-observer-cop-tower things are annoying in my own neighborhood, and insulting at the place people are meant to linger.
“Loitering is not permitted in this area. Please proceed to a designated location. Thank you for your cooperation,” a surveillance machine tells a small cluster of National Guard members as they patrol the fenced off Reflecting Pool in the rain.

The Lonely Race to Save Ukraine’s Past In a country ravaged by war, Ukraine’s conservators are torn between protecting the country’s past and fighting for its future. by Gina Errico www.biographic.com/the-lonely-r...
*double sigh* because i can repeat this until I am blue in the face and yet every course I get the obviously auto-generated citations in the works cited lists in final papers and all I can do is grade what is turned in despite multiple warnings, examples, lectures, lessons, resource links, etc.
*sigh* I taught students to do this. And the main idea I drummed into them--like beating a dead horse--was that if you use a citation generator and submit its mistakes, THOSE ARE NOW YOUR MISTAKES. Easier to just write your own citations. Everything else is twice the work. I will die on this hill.
