NEW: Remedy's latest game, Control Resonant, is filled with art galleries. The galleries are filled with real art When I began talking to Remedy about it, I was delighted to discover who the artists are: many are the game developers' parents My story... www.gamefile.news/p/control-re...

The D&D and MTG teams unionizing might be the year's biggest gaming news story, a long overdue move in an increasingly fragile industry. Our friends and WotC employees Vanessa and Crystal tell us about their union's demands, and what they hope comes out of this. youtu.be/WgETZjouauU
Then when the gang gets back together for dinner and one of the NPCs goes, "And Sadie and Gedwey looked for the troublemakers *everywhere*, *all day*, and didn't find anything!", prompting Gedwey to guiltily take their drink and go hunt down a clue about the cult the others suspected to be behind it

Watching this industry over the last 15 years has been so painful. The closest thing we have to a universal recipe for making great games is keeping teams together over time, and letting them cook. _Teams_. Of _people_. Seemingly nobody in NA games leadership has ever valued or understood this
You know what Nintendo does when they have a surplus set of devs from cancellations or production ending? Put them on other projects. The ability to redeploy headcount while keeping teams together over time is like, the main strategic benefit of scale in the game industry

PS I know "yay let's unionize" sounds good but doesn't give any concrete action steps. This video explains very succinctly how you actually go about forming a union at your job (the organization you get in touch with for help depends on your industry.) youtu.be/ibNkDZXDMDQ?...
I hope workers in other game studios see WoTC unionizing, and see the mass layoffs and BioWare closing and decide it's time to put their foot down. What do we have to lose by unionizing? A job that you're afraid every day you'll be laid off from anyway? UNIONIZE THE GAME INDUSTRY!
If your parents are aging, they need to be having a discussion around transfer of assets away from them *before* they hit the point they need to be hospitalized for their health. Illness patients transferring things to the healthy spouse. Setting up POA to children or trusted agents. Sad, but vital
if millennials could afford homes this wouldnt be a problem but this is going to hit the generation like a truck

I don't know what Japanese horse girls are, but this is what the MAGA vision of a walled America looks like. Bread is more expensive and the circuses are canceled. You have horse girls at home.
Jesus Christ: Japanese horse girls have to cancel their two-day concert in Los Angeles because the Trump administration repeatedly refused to issue visas for performers to enter the U.S. I personally would not piss off the anime demographic two weeks before Election Day: umamusume.com/news/100113/

Phase is made in Vestal NY. I've employed several small businesses to support the creation and promotion of this game. No big ad spends lining billionaires' pockets. No AI whatsoever. If this jives with you, please share. #boardgames #queercreator #witchy #indie www.kickstarter.com/projects/ser...

"Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)... is considering cutting 70% of its service and closing up to 15 of 50 stations, some 30%. Caltrain, the area’s leading local commuter rail system, could discontinue weekend service and shutter up to a third of its stations."

Can’t make the intergenerational compact work with declining birthrates and seniors going fully antisocial.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

I’m sorry but this “core team” stuff has reached a level of absurdity. You can’t say this shit about a game that used hundreds of contractors.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

If game studios are shifting to the Hollywood model, game workers are going to have to shift more quickly to the union model in order to survive.
Lower pay? Not usually. It’s just so they don’t have to fire folks once their job is done. They can just be reassigned by their actual company to a new project at another studio. It’s the Hollywood model, basically. The whole industry is semi-pivoting that way.

In terms of large companies with software needs, it's not just about the program, it's about the maintenance, updates and security. They pay Adobe (and whomever) for upkeep, which is something a "one-shot" clone probably can't/won't do. Also those vibe-coded clones are probably insecure as fuck, so.
I was looking for a nuanced take on the Adobe clone situation from an “is this legal” standpoint, and I think this is as good as it gets. Nice work by @plagiarismtoday.com. www.plagiarismtoday.com/2026/10/14/c...
