there should be a complexity class for problems where LLM proofs are harder to verify than solve directly

Gotta remember we are in the pre-enshittification era of LLMs. As AI companies search for profitability they will invariably stop passing surplus onto us users.

While the Fields Medal celebrates the under-40s, the mathematician Joan Birman has, at the age of 99, solved a major open problem in representations of the Braid groups, a topic she has worked on for more than 60 years.

All the top papers on Scirate saw AI play some role, in some cases a major one. These screenshots are from the top 4 papers, in order. A major role played by AI in at least three of them.

pretty pls come to our workshop

wow — the preprint host, arxiv, is banning authors for a year if they submit papers with hallucinated citations 🤖

I find this unsettling: A new study in #Lancet shows that the number of faux citations in scientific articles is on the rise, and #AI is likely to blame. @aniloza.bsky.social reports. www.statnews.com/2026/05/07/l...

blowing my mind that these are two people who lived at the same time who both won nobel prizes in physics: Wolfgang Pauli Wolfgang Paul

not me betting someone named Wolfgang Pau will win a nobel prize in physics on prediction markets in the coming decade

while i was in amsterdam for 3 months i managed to run the length of 430 streets. not bad given i have roughly the same number of completed streets in seattle and i've been running here for 4 years

After nearly 6 years of consistent releases, mitiq has its first major release. I’m very happy to have shepherded this project for the time that I have, but this release is a culmination of over 90 people working together to make quantum computers suck a bit less.

Very happy that this project has been able to on-ramp some folks into the quantum industry as well as it has. Many contributors made their first quantum software contribution to mitiq.
