This Day in Labor History: October 27, 1948. An air inversion trapped the pollution spewed out by U.S. Steel-owned factories in Donora, Pennsylvania. The Donora Fog killed 20 people and sickened 6000 others. Let's talk about this deadly legacy of industrial pollution. That photo was taken at noon!

This is basically a declaration of a five alarm fire delivered with some potato salad and a pecan pie.

This was tonight's goal. I didn't get any perfect crow inside the moon shots, but this group of white faced ibis' knew the score! thanks, birds! ISO 500, F22, 1/200s, taken a minute before Sunset so there was still some light. better edits on a laptop later 🪶

Cool, I was curious if (and this is NOT a critique, just an artistic idea) with a higher f stop if the crow and moon both could be in focus. That may be impractical tho, I've never tried that kind of shot. And I love what you've gotten. :)

Some days you have to find the birds and some days the birds find you--like this handsome Red-bellied Woodpecker that was obsessed with this tree knot just overhead. Did I say, 'handsome'? 🥰🥰🥰 #Woodpecker #CentralPark #birdsseenin2026

To stop diving seabirds from drowning in fishing nets, a study tested bird-of-prey kites and googly-eyed buoys, cutting guillemot and razorbill bycatch significantly. While weather and habituation pose limits, short seasonal uses offer a promising fix. Liz Kimbrough reports for #Mongabay.

Dog-sitting near Hanover Mass and drove by this chapel and decided to stop. It’s incredible. Built in 1953 by Cardinal Richard Cushing, it’s a replica of the original Portiuncula in Assisi which was restored by St. Francis over 700 years ago. The bluest sky, daisies, birds, and a very peaceful hour.

The Cardinal lived such a life! He married JFK and Jackie and was very involved in the life of Boston. And he is buried here. But most near and dear to my heart is what he accomplished for those with intellectual disabilities. ❤️

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

chat I don’t think doubling down on this ad is working out real well for vivek

This week’s main story is about how more and more white nationalists, antisemites, and Nazi sympathizers seem to be integrating into the Republican Party, how some of them are currently running for office, and how old you can be for JD Vance to consider you “a very young boy.”

When I lived on Camp Lejeune I was the only girl on a soccer team and no thanks to me the Chiefs went undefeated that season. But I got to play every game, in a position where I could do the least damage lol, but I played and me and the boys had a blast.

This drives me CRAZY. I grew up playing sports w/ boys. I played on a U12 boys select soccer team, b4 switching to a U12 girls team that kept beating us. Nobody had any issue with any of it. Youth sports have never had the strict sex/gender boundaries that “XX-XY” activists are now trying to defend.
