It is easier and cheaper to launch a missile than to intercept one. There is no easy fix to Ukraine’s air-defence gap. But Europe can help shift the balance, while building up its own missile-defence capacity. @lscazzieri.bsky.social explains how ⤵️ shorturl.at/1ARTN

Europe faces its most dangerous security environment in decades. How can it deter Russia in an era of reduced US engagement? We're launching the discussion around our new Chaillot Paper, 'Defending Europe, Deterring Russia: resources, readiness and resolve'.
Pleased to have led this project, bringing together a great group of colleagues. The Chaillot explores what strengthening European deterrence requires in the political-military domain, and more broadly across energy systems, technology, critical raw materials and societal resilience.
Europe needs to deter Russia with much less US support. Doing that means investing in 3 foundations: ✅ Resources ✅ Readiness ✅ Resolve Read our 🆕 Chaillot Paper ➡️ shorturl.at/b19GB

My latest on Europe's gap in long range strike. Europeans grasp the challenge but should move faster.
Europe’s ability to strike deep into Russia is essential to credible deterrence. After Washington cancelled plans to deploy long range missiles to Germany, Europe must accelerate efforts to get its own deep-strike capabilities. @lscazzieri.bsky.social. shorturl.at/vdGcL
