Because of the absence of the same sort of "other" to fear and loathe in the U.S. today (the country is wildly diverse in race, religion, ethnicity, etc.), it's important here for income/wealth/class not to be perceived as a possible basis for unified opposition.

Taking "socialism" as a horrific plan to eliminate all property rights is helpful in keeping the populace in line with Republicanism, whatever their income level. Because of a largely non-diverse citizenry, in spite MAGA-type goals, that fear wasn't necessary to retain support in Weimar Germany.

Nevertheless it's much more useful to current U.S. "leadership" for socialism to be seen as an evil idea than it was in Weimar. The main goal is the same: to make sure that there is no unified opposition to the particular type of leadership held by those in power.

this whole thing is on Bezos, a perfect example of why billionaires will not save us for years he supported the Post and then he decided destroying it utterly at the altar of a wannabe dictator better served his personal ambitions, so he did institutions shouldn’t live or did at one man’s whim

WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Post says one-third of its staff across all departments, not just the newsroom, is being laid off.

Hegseth gave a My Lai vibe, for he makes that war-fighting episode the U.S. military's finest moment. He takes the realist position that bad people must be killed--armed or unarmed, adults or babies. We can know they are bad because they have drugs, or look different, or can't understand English.

This is a fantastic statement from the governor of Washington, but I can't get past the fact that the man who's standing up to the right-wing anti-immigrant machine is named ... Bob Ferguson? Seriously? Does he have a daughter named Willa?

What MAGA supporters hate about the new South Park season is that they can't say the show is "woke." For 30 years, nothing has been more anti-woke than South Park. It doesn't give a shit if something shown is politically incorrect. So complaints about it come off as snowflakey. Trumpians hate that.
