Congratulations on your 10-year channel anniversary, @kevinpowell.co! Keep teaching us the cool things CSS can do. AI can write better code than I ever could, but it will never be the Meister from which I want to learn the craft.

I wish I'd realized when recording this that it would come out on the 10-year anniversary of my channel, but even if I didn't mention it, I guess it's still pretty fitting ๐Ÿ˜… (plus it was posted to my second channel anyway, lol)

I am trying to let an agent write a @home-assistant.io automation to heat a room with an AC (based on a few inputs). And I just realised how hard it to establish a shared vocabulary between me and the agent to put me in a position that I can describe to the agent what I want.

It's stunning to see the leading supermarket chain in the Netherlands unable to get back online after they were knocked off the Internet 5 days ago. On normal days, you are almost guaranteed to see at least one of their blue delivery vans during the day. Their fleet has completely vanished.

The market for agentic IDEs seems to have collapsed under its own weight. How am I supposed to distinguish a vibed IDE from a thought-through agentic IDE when there are dozens of options? Every agentic IDE I have tested so far was an incoherent collection of overcomplicated features.

"Apply to attend this meetup" followed by a registration the size of a job application, followed by a wave of email SPAM in my inbox makes me wonder why anyone would want to go there? I'm looking at you, @zed.dev (Amsterdam meetup).

I used to be so excited about the SvelteKit v1 and v2 releases. v3 is probably another topper. But with agentic coding, I feel no release excitement. The thing that keeps me busy (not excited) is how to not sink with my team in an ocean of technical debt in which little details don't matter. ๐Ÿ˜ข

SvelteKit 3 is out! Better environment variable handling, better error messages, and sensible breaking changes with an easy upgrade thanks to our migration script which handles many things automatically and gives you(r agent) a nice Todo list for the rest.

I have been testing Railway's cloud agents with OpenCode. They work fine, but the promise of a throw-away agents does not materialize. The moment you require a custom setup, e.g. accessing a private registry, the config is a hassle. I would rather have a local box where I configure things once.

Why can't every website with logins have such a button? Some websites and services turn an account deletion request into a huge drama. Others let me self-delete my account in 2 seconds, which saves the mutual hassle.

Glad to read that someone rescues Tailwind Labs. AI was about to suffocate them. As much as I disliked Tailwind in the beginning, I came to terms with it and now use it on a daily basis. But itโ€™s still a mystery to me how a layer nobody needed became the default. tailwindcss.com/blog/tailwin...

Today I solved real-world problem with AI. During triage, I learned a lot about hydraulic disc brakes and why my Shimano MT-200 has a long dead zone. Went to my bike dealer and had the brake levers swapped with a model that builds up pressure a little faster. And now my brakes are ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿšฒ

Google playing along with the Lake Bullshit renaming is just a reminder that Big Tech does not have an ethical or moral compass. They will make a deal with the ๐Ÿ‘น if it suits them. The EU needs to bring the ๐Ÿ”จ down on Big Tech. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

It feels like 99% of YouTube thumbnails are now AI-pimped clickbait. This does not mean that such videos are of low content quality. But it's frustrating that even for the best educational videos my first reaction is often "WTF?!" because the thumbnail completely misrepresents the content.

Making agentic coding work for teams is a challenge. It's great to see Zed tackle this space. But I think that this way of working requires a major cultural shift for most teams: every ticket is a conversation way beyond "I implemented this, can you review?". This will be a hard sell.

As someone who sees how AI is used in organisations vs by individuals I can tell you that most problems organizations have are caused by the organizations and not the technology. Orgs are top down structures. Decisions are made at the top and bottoms are not allowed to decide anything.

Info email from a Dutch online retailer that lost personal and order data a few days ago: We are in no hurry to find out what information was stolen. We take no responsibility and blame our logistics partner. We do not offer our apologies and would like to point out that we are open for business.

This statement summarizes the impact of AI well. But itโ€™s far from my reality. Itโ€™s so much easier to shun AI than engaging into a discussion how to move forward responsibly with something that wonโ€™t go away.

This statement from Codeberg maintainers, after their community voted to not use any code for LLM training and banned vibe-coded projects, is really good. blog.codeberg.org/protecting-o...

It's frustrating to to see political leaders in the EU undermine a recent no by the European Parliament to pursue a fever dream of mass surveillance. Opportunistic behaviour is incredibly toxic no matter if it's at local government, national government or EU level. And I see so much of it lately.

Tuta@tuta.com

CHAT CONTROL IS BACK โ†’ Today the urgent procedure for Chat Control 1.0 was passed. Next up: EU Parliament is voting on Thursday. If Chat Control passes your messages, pictures, videos will all be scanned because the law will require it - this removes privacy & welcomes mass surveillance in the EU.

"The Chat Bots, with their sycophantic tone of voice, are deliberately engineered to erase our own personalities, hard work and craft entirely from the equation." This is brutal to read. And very relatable.

Hi, friends. The last 6 years have been a blast, but I just don't like being on The Internet anymore. I'm leaving DevRel, and I wrote a little bit about why. Look after yourselves, and each other. Love, Salma

My experience with agents is that it doesn't make my work "faster". In the end it costs roughly the same amount of time, if not longer But my role has shifted from "builder" to "sculptor", which is a completely different job. I hated it at the very beginning tbh, but I'm getting better at it slowly
