Using Israel as an argument against proportional representation is misleading. Its electoral system is unusual, with no local constituencies or vote for individual candidates. PR isnโ€™t one system. We can have fairer elections and strong local representation. @electoralreform.bsky.social ๐Ÿ‘‡

Great to see more and more people saying this: "The Conservativesโ€™ reflexive opposition to electoral reform is a mistake. There is, in fact, a strong Conservative case for proportional representation, rooted not only in the interests of the party but in the principles of good government." ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Last month, Andy Burnham made an announcement that could end up transforming British politics. Whichever party we vote for (and we're a politically diverse bunch!), we all agree: he deserves a nice cold pint for this. Cheers, Andy! Now let's make it happen.๐Ÿป

"Thank you." Andy from Warrington has a simple message to Andy Burnham. It's refreshing to finally have a Prime Minister who takes our democracy seriously. Now it's time to take the next step and fix the voting system.

More than 6 in 10 people in Holborn and St Pancras stayed at home yesterday. Of those who voted, more than 50% didn't get the representation they asked for. Regardless of who you supported, we can hopefully all agree: we deserve a better democracy.

๐Ÿˆ OUT NOW: Can you survive as Prime Minister? ๐Ÿฅฌ In Larry's Lodger, you've got to hold on to your job for 100 days.. while keeping your most ambitious pledge. With press barons, wealthy donors and your own allies ready to sabotage you, you've got your work cut out. game.bettercoalition.co.uk

"There are several reasons for the UK to adopt a more proportional voting system of which the most important is the moral one: itโ€™s fairer." A letter by our Chair Susanna Dammann has been published in the Guardian:

Great to see figures from across the political spectrum join the calls for PR. Our campaign is not about party politics. It's about building a democracy that works for everyone, regardless of how or where they vote. When all voices are heard, the whole country benefits.

โ—๏ธImportant point by our youth coordinator Livvy Gibbs: FPTP is the only system that could allow an extreme government take 100% of the power on under 30% of the vote, putting our rights and freedoms at risk. "It was really quite an emotional moment." "This will change British politics for good and forever." At Labour Conference, we asked MPs, councillors and activists about Andy Burnham's electoral reform announcement. Here's what they said ๐Ÿ‘‡

The vast majority of European countries use forms of Proportional Representation, and have done so for many decades. Not one of them has a significant grassroots campaign for switching to First Past the Post.

"Make Votes Matter CEO Emma Harrison said: 'This is a historic moment. For too long, our dysfunctional voting system has denied millions of people aย  meaningful say over who governs them. Burnham has the opportunity to be remembered as the Prime Minister who changed British politics for good.'โ€

So pleased to hear this confirmed in the PMโ€™s speech. Big congrats to @makevotesmatter.bsky.social and all whoโ€™ve campaigned for it! At last we have a chance to restore trust in our politics with a system where โ€œeveryoneโ€™s views count and everyoneโ€™s vote mattersโ€ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

After all Labour's previous dalliances with PR for the Commons, let's hope they see this through - first past the post cannot cope with the modern state of politics.

Andy Burnham is expected to mention electoral reform in his speech today. As we wait to hear what he says, letโ€™s be clear: this moment wouldnโ€™t be happening without the grassroots movement that has spent years making the case for change. Thank you for being part of it.

We're here in front of Labour Conference with a message to all delegates: vote for a fairer democracy! Remember to pick "electoral reform" in the priorities ballot! #Lab26 #LabourConference2026

๐Ÿšจ Urgent message to Labour Conference delegates. Pass it on! On Sunday, you'll get to vote in the priorities ballot, which will decide which motions will be heard at conference. Let's make sure that a fair voting system is on the agenda. Vote for "electoral reform" and ask others to do the same.

Millions of people live in seats that have been represented by the same party since WW2. If Andy Burnham really wants to spread power evenly across the country, this must include changing the voting system so that no community is taken for granted. Our Manchester activist Abbie writes:

northwestbylines.co.ukDemocracy in every postcode โ€“ Why devolution needs electoral reformOur voting system needs reforming to make sure democracy does not suffer from the multitude of parties we have now

People have campaigned for a fair voting system for over a century. Now it finally seems within reach: with the two-party system crumbling, public opinion shifting towards PR and a pro-PR Prime Minister. An idea whose time has come? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Under FPTP, a small shift in the polls can completely change the makeup of Parliament. This means that money spent influencing a relatively small number of voters in a handful of marginal constituencies can decide the future of the country.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Today is the UN's International Day of Democracy. If you asked people what they associate with democracy, many would probably respond: elections. Voting is a fundamental democratic right. But being able to cast a ballot every few years is not enough. ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡
