Andy Burnham has announced a National Commission on electoral reform - we just took a huge step towards fairer votes. PR is key to a more equal, sustainable society. Thanks to our 3,000+ members & tens of thousands of supporters, the next Government could deliver it. How some of them reacted👇

Last month, Andy Burnham made an announcement that could end up transforming British politics. Whichever party we vote for (and we're a politically diverse bunch!), we all agree: he deserves a nice cold pint for this. Cheers, Andy! Now let's make it happen.🍻

📌 The Prime Minister says electoral reform will "underpin our plan for Britain with a new politics" 🗳️ He has been clearly “every vote must count” 🌹 Laura Parker discusses the National Commission on Electoral Reform on Times Radio #Labour4PR

"How do we build the cultures in Whitehall to deal with multi-party politics? The rise of the populist right is not just about them it’s about our failure." Neal Lawson, Director of Compass It’s a full house at #GreenConference2026

"Don’t judge people for not having the right set of words or the right set of ideas immediately. If we can’t have conversations with these people we’re never going to get anywhere." @joetodd.bsky.social Green Party writer and podcaster #GreenConference2026

We asked former First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford what Labour needed to do to rebuild after their defeat in Caerphilly. #LabourConference2026

Andy Burnham closed out our conference 18 months ago with a speech outlining the wholesale reform Britain needs - electoral reform, the public ownership of water, a national housebuilding programme. We hoped he could give it on the party conference stage sooner rather than later.

We backed him to do this. 18 months on, we are utterly vindicated in that decision. Here, the public gets what it has been crying out for. A Prime Minister no longer tinkering around the edges but committing to actual political, economic and social reform.

"We're late to the transition to public ownership. Across Europe, there's so many examples of water being brought back into public ownership - in many different ways. And they've told us: we'll help you get there." Lena Swedlow, Compass Deputy Director #LabourConference2026 @serauk.bsky.social

"The last few years have taught us that the political settlement that built Labour has changed." In a multi-party system, it's likely no Burnham bounce will hand Labour a majority in 2029. Could it lead a progressive majority instead? Lena Swedlow, Compass Deputy Director #LabourConference2026

"If we don't genuinely empower local councils, whatever we do at a national level will fail... People don't feel control over their daily lives and there is no way for people to express that." @ellybakeram.bsky.social, London Assembly Member #LabourConference2026

The amount of NEU members who voted Labour just a few years ago was 60%. That went down to barely 18% in latest polling. Debra Beale, National President of the NEU herself left the Labour Party after Keir Starmer's "Island of Strangers" speech in 2025. #LabourConference2026
