My simple beliefs: Women are amazing. They should be respected and listened to. Bikes, trains and buses are smart transportation. I can take a nice photo of an amazing scene, but I am trying to learn how to make an amazing image of an average scene.

IMPORTANT: NASA map shows temperatures of up to 160 degrees on Phoenix streets & sidewalks. All that unrelenting concrete and asphalt for cars. Not nearly enough trees. They start with ridiculous heat that’s only getting worse with the #ClimateCrisis, & then make it much worse with bad design.

This Vienna street isn’t “closed” because cars have been removed. It’s been opened to everything else, to a diverse and invigorated civic life for people, because cars have been replaced by a multitude of wonderful things. Language matters. HT @dmoser.bsky.social for the pic. #OpenStreets

Heard from a colleague spending a few months in the Netherlands. "Went on a 35-mile bike ride today, entirely on bike paths, through all kinds of landscapes. Turns out I love biking, I'm just scared of biking with cars." 😢

“Over 40k people die in car crashes in the US every year. Entire neighborhoods are carved up by high-speed traffic. Kids can’t walk to school safely. But don’t worry – someone saw a teenager run a stop sign on an e-bike, so the real crisis must be those darn batteries on two wheels.”

Seems bad: "We identified more than 30,000 tire wear particles in 24 liters of stormwater runoff from roads and parking lots after two rainstorms. In heavy traffic areas, we believe the concentrations could be much higher."

Wow! France gifted her to us, and now they’ve captured what so many Americans are feeling on Independence Day. The values the Statue of Liberty stood for are no more. 📌 A stunning mural of the Statue of Liberty covering her face was unveiled in Roubaix, France, on July 3, 2025.

"Bike lanes restrict road space. Bike lanes have turned streets into parking lots, with residents unable to shop, get kids to events, and seriously impact emergency services & Wheel-Trans." Actually, no. 100% wrong. Car dependency & too much driving with increasingly large vehicles does all that.

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money and pollution. Via UITPnews

It really isn't that hard to look at existing issues and then go see what has been successful in other parts of the world (I am not JUST talking about transportation and traffic deaths)

In the United States, it is not just oversized SUVs, but also the very large pickup trucks made worse by being jacked up. I am 5'9" and some of these trucks have a hood taller than me!

“A review of scientific research has found that pedestrians and cyclists are 44% more likely to be killed in a collision with an SUV or light truck, compared to a passenger car. The outlook is even more dire for children, who are 82% more likely to be killed when struck by the larger vehicles.”

I live in a city that is 64% renters (Montreal, Quebec). It’s a great place to live and I would not call it a “slum”. The idea that rentals aren’t real homes is a shitty thing to say. It’s snobbery dressed up in progressive language about landlords and “exploitation”.

Jeramy Olmack@jeramyolmack.com

Simple: Rentals are temporary accommodations (also know as a hotel) dressed up as if they were a home. An Apartment Rental is not a long term home and we have to stop allowing it to be substituted as such. Through a rental moratorium, we are stopping landlords from exploiting our communities.

A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people. Sound efficient? HT @ellenmacarthurfdn.bsky.social

Car dominance isn’t about safety or utility, it’s a bloated industry pushing bigger, deadlier machines under the guise of "freedom". Meanwhile, pedestrians and cyclists are told to "gear up" for their own survival. This is systemic violence, disguised as choice.

Suburbs are drowning in space, yet mobility remains car-dependent. Wide, multi-use paths are cheap, practical, and unlock real freedom for people to move safely. It’s time we stop paving exclusively for cars and start building for people to have real options in local, urban mobility.
