Scoop: This afternoon NSF will formally announce its four 'Frontier Initiatives', and a suite of other changes in a public letter. These Frontier Initiatives (left) are identical to OSTP's 'Grand Research Challenges' that we have been reporting on (right). www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I asked students in my networks class today how many packets they think they send/receive over the Internet each day. Most guesses were a few thousand packets per day. When I told them it would be in the order of a million packets, for 1GB of data use each day. Their expressions were priceless 🙂

If the government executing us in the streets isn’t your red line, then you’ve already decided to endorse it. There’s no gray area left. No ambiguity.

Senate committee on appropriations markup meeting is starting now. They'll be discussing a lot of stuff, but in particular, science agencies like NSF & NASA. Yesterday Sen. Moran indicated funding would be 33.9 billion, preserving FY '24 numbers. www.appropriations.senate.gov/hearings/ful...

Was out collecting spatial videos on the Apple Vision Pro for research—just roaming around the city. Multiple people yelled at me: “DUDE, YOU'RE CRAZY!” and “DON’T WATCH PORN IN THE STREETS, MY MAN!” Fair enough. I probably looked like I deserved that 😅

The Tariff episode is over.. waiting for the release of the next episode from American media. It's like a Netflix drama series! You don't need a Netflix account for drama series... American political news can be entertaining if you don't pay much attention to its profound implications.

Based on the replies here.. the EU and also the airlines have pretty good rights for passengers.. I think the airline representative that I interacted with did a poor job of giving me these details- expense reimbursement or voucher info. I’ll go through the process and post my experience here later

I’m having the worst experience of airlines ever with #KLM 😢 My flight got canceled here in Amsterdam.. to Boston. And they don’t have flights until tomorrow. They just told me to wait around airport until then. Is that what they do when your flight get canceled? Never had this type of experience

I’m organizing a conference this year in Klagenfurt and I started inviting people from within my network to submit papers. One US college replied that foreign students don’t want to leave the country due to the current situation. 🧐 #AcademicSky 🧪

Every single channel on my TV was saying signal is not secure 🤦‍♂️

Evan Greer@evangreer.bsky.social

Sigh. Here we go again. It's really important that people are smart about this story re: Trump admin using Signal to discuss war plans. The center-left media wants to make the story about Trump admin fucking up, which they did. But in the process they're falsely implying that Signal is "insecure."🧵
