I won’t vote for Gavin Newsom.

Sure doesn’t taste like a functional democracy.

Riki Wilchins@rikiwilchins.bsky.social

For the 1st time in US history SCOTUS has more rulings on its shadow docket -- unsigned and with no opinions -- than it has cases where it has heard oral arguments and issued signed rulings. IOW they are hiding their deliberations while stealing our democracy. www.propublica.org/article/supr...

As I’ve said for decades and had in my profile here since nearly when I started the account — Gavin Newsom is not a viable politician. The man represents the past, not the future.

Mission Local@missionlocal.org

Governor Gavin Newsom, San Francisco's former mayor, has endorsed Mayor Daniel Lurie's charter measures. Those measures would make it harder to put measures on the ballot and increase the mayor's power, among other changes. via @io-y-g.bsky.social missionlocal.org/2026/10/san-...

The NYT covers so many people this way. There are insane, evil people doing horrific things and they cover them as waffling figures simply trying to find their way in this world, just like The Rest of Us. It’s infuriating & hurting the nation.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

The New York Times wrote articles that were like "the impossible-to-characterize elusive politics of Elon Musk / he's lost interest in politics" right before he became *literally the largest GOP donor in history* the next election cycle. Twice. Two times!

I think I have to play contrarian on this one. Phishing is a major, growing cybersecurity problem at organizations everywhere. And a major part of the success is leaning into human emotion. This is a brilliant white hat email. This is what an actual hacker would do. I hope staff got their ring tho.

San Francisco is the most regressive of the progressive cities of the major west coast cities now. The tech money influence has been impactful. The lack of voting participation has always been a problem for the City. But now it’s allowed conservative ideology to take hold. Time to take the City back

Chuck Schumer — one of the most powerful Democrats in the country — has not issued statements to the press or through his social media channels about the administration’s attack on Ilhan Omar, which critics have described as a five alarm fire for the state of democracy in the U.S.

I love individuals. I regularly connect with many of them of all stripes of life across this country. Over decades. Decades. Coast to coast. To know the amount of attention & empathy you can provide a fellow human that leads to a parental claw towards you speaks volumes. Humans are getting sicker.

Bilal Mahmood selling out San Francisco in that fever dream of “any housing will get us out of the affordability problem.” Divis is about to have a “budget” slice of cheese pizza jump to $20. SF seems like it’s destined to crater into its own “success.”

PUML@puml.media

After successfully killing a plan to develop 180 units of affordable housing at a 400 Divisadero, SF’s YIMBY politicians are celebrating the plan for Greystar (the largest corporate landlord in the country) to develop luxury housing on the site.

Out here normalizing breaking the law. I need hair on fire democratic outrage. This frog boil is bullshit complicity.

Call it the Americans Overreacted Act. The Patriot Act & DHS were a costly mistake.

After another shooting and the raid on Ilhan Omar's home, Rep. Delia Ramirez says abolishing ICE isn't enough. She has introduced a bill to "dismantle" the entire Department of Homeland Security.

Kash is meeting with the Kremlin on last-minute election interference tips. Trust. Donald told Vlad he was worried, Vlad told him to send the FBI director for help, and the rest is the end of American democracy (Putin hopes). Guess we’ll see if we get J6 2.0.

Republicans: We’re doing live executions. Democrats: Can we compromise a bit here and put it in safe harbor hours? (I mock the Dems not because I want them to lose. I do it because I want them to act & stop being mockable.)

When democrats say they love free speech except when it comes to saying bad things about Israel & they believe in human rights except when it’s trans youth, you get the picture they’re not that different from Republicans. The degree is different, but the mission isn’t. And that’s a problem.

This only works if the other party you’re dealing with is also taking you seriously. And that’s sort of the problem the country has been having for several decades on the national, political level. It forces a major reset like the New Deal to undo the harms of 🤫🤞 lunch chats. I pity the fool.

It’s everywhere. Politicians are afraid of local LE & we need to understand why. Threats? Political fallout? Fear of a crime wave? Step 1 is why. Step 2 is a solve. Step 3 is complete reform of local public safety.

Dave Byrnes@djbyrnes1.bsky.social

There are multiple state and local laws in place meant to limit collaboration between federal immigration agents and local IL cops, CPD included. But as has now been reported on by multiple outlets, local law enforcement in IL has repeatedly assisted ICE anyway.

Pretty telling that not one person or entity had a comment on this. This smells like old Portland back door business arrangements that we’re trying to root out. We’re coming for everyone in gov’t trying to turn that clock back. Let’s get this city truly representative.

In pre-pubescence my mom told me to never let anyone, not even people I trusted, touch my privates. At around 10 or 11 an older boy invited to his house to watch a movie. He tried to rape me & I got away & never told anyone. In middle school a classmate told people a gym teacher had raped her.

For me, the hardest thing about stories like the Cornell gang rape case isn’t reading the initial details—although that is hard. What’s even harder is when men online, especially the journalists and pundits, start trying to combat the feminist outrage by purposefully seeding doubt and victim-blaming

for raping students when he became a teacher too. When I was in college, I went to just a few parties, some at frats, some at friends’ houses. On multiple occasions I had to stop men from taking advantage of drunk or passed out women. If I wasn’t there to stop it, I know what would have happened.

In my adult years meeting and dating other women, similar stories are everywhere. Rape & sexual assaults are rampant. Accountability for the crimes are a blip on the radar. Larger society is not taking this seriously. To the brave humans who do speak out, you’re heroes. We have a lot of work to do.

Most of the school took the “cool teacher’s” side & called the victim a “lying slut.” She dropped out. In my adult years, I would learn that teacher and 3 other male “cool teachers” had parties with the kids & had sex with them. One of my male classmates who went to those parties is now in prison…

Dear California, I don’t care if after Prop 40 passes the government takes the billionaires’ money and sets it on fire. Literally. Just take their GD money & normalize it.

Back in my day you could be arrested for just stumbling across a publicly exposed web directory that was meant to be private and downloading the files.

I supported Wilson out of the field. I got it wrong. I thought he would bring business acumen alongside Portland values. He did not. Keith Wilson needs to go. Not the worst, but not the answer.

I thought my heart was already pretty broken from all of this brutal, illegal ICE bullshit. And then a friend told me their sister was just kidnapped by the American government. There was deeper pain to be had. Greater fury.

I love our journalists who aren’t playing access politics as a career, but damn if I’m not disappointed in the “opposition party” that can’t seem to work in concert with their efforts. What are we doing?

At least two people have filed complaints against Day with the Secretary of State’s office in the past week. Both alleged that Day used his position as a public employee to “promote or oppose” a person’s election campaign, in violation of a state law.

Dot Com Crash: Huh. That’s was bad. We won’t fall for that again. 2008 financial crisis: Oof. Took it on the chin. Hard lessons were learned. 2026: Let’s mix the last 2 crisis together and see if it works out.

MAGA wants Councilor Mitch Green to resign.

I’m guessing the Portland Police Bureau’s next phase will be falsely accusing Mitch of a crime, territory they’re familiar with. I’m not running for office ever, so let me be clear. Fuck PPB/PPA/POA. It’s not serving its purpose for the people & it’s a money pit/grift. My life for a reformer.

Here is my full statement on the tweets I made in 2020 regarding the police. The PPA, PPB, Mayor and several of my colleagues have all made statements following that Oregonian piece. The public deserves to know what I think about that and stand for - then and now.

Trump: "We spent more than $2 billion in FEMA funding. You're waiting for some additional funding. I'm gonna get that to you. Now if Michael loses, I'm not sending it." Crowd: *groans*

Zimmerman is freaking out here because he knows the truth of what’s happening and, in my opinion, doesn’t want it to stop. So he’ll use multiple levels of probable deniability to create fiction that slanders others. It’s disqualifying as a councilor & despicable as a position for a person.

Left Coast Reads 📚🌹@leftcoastreads.bsky.social

Councilor Eric Zimmerman went on a local podcast and blatantly lied about his colleagues and the policies they support. He said, "We have 6 councilors who said they want to investigate Oregon businesses who do business with Jewish companies." This is a lie and is downright slanderous.
