Retroquad is a fully software-rendered 8-bit indexed color engine with no Assembly code, no CPU-specific instructions, and no GPU usage at all. It's still designed for 32-bit CPUs, just like Quake was in 1996. There are more details in the About page here: www.patreon.com/c/mankrip/ab...

We're living through a culture war, and generative AI is a weapon. The ones who use it without killing their own are the ones who will win. We may hate the violence, but there's no way to win a war without picking a weapon. It's a sad truth, but there's no way to survive without facing it.

It's really sad to see id lay off both sponge and SyncError, their two biggest public advocates for game history preservation, modding, and Quake itself, at the same time. I hope everyone affected somehow ends up better off than they were before.

after almost 16 years my time with id is done as layoffs ravage everyone across the companies. i'm going to be fine money wise, but if you have money to spare, donate it to the game worker hardship fund! uvw-cwa.org/hardship-fun...

PS: The differences in brightness in some details were deliberate, because those details didn't pop out enough in the original textures.

Playing Mario RPG and realizing that the Mushroom Kingdom dumps their sewage through the Kero Sewers into the Midas River, which feeds their allies at the Tadpole Pond.

A plea for help. 🙏 One of the lead playtesters of Blue Prince, Iggy, has polycystic kidney disease and has only a few months to find a living kidney donor. His story, contact and donor information can all be found on iggyland.org Please help us in sharing his story and getting the word out.💙

No, Peach didn't "friendzone" Mario. They did have a torrid passionate relationship, but it ended horribly because she kept dumping all of her lifelong traumas on him until he was traumatized himself, completely broken and a shadow of the man he once was.

Still, he kept sacrificing himself to support her so she could heal herself and rebuild the Mushroom Kingdom. Once it was done, she saw how weak, pathetic and fragile he had become in the darkness of his own bottomless pipe, and realized that he had become a burden for her.

She dumped him without regret. He had no worth to be a citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom. Still, they kept their "friendship" for the sake of appearances. For the serenity of the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario swallowed his pride and accepted the humiliation of pretending he's happy.

The ‘Piracy. It’s a Crime’ campaign used pirated music, *and* as it turns out, also used pirated fonts. Incredible.

By using FontForge on a PDF from the website for the campaign (web.archive.org/web/20051223...); I can confirm that they are indeed using the illegal clone version of the font, rather than the licensed one!

Through the power of DickTrainer Emulation Technology, Killer Instinct has achieved average frame times in the realm of 1.3 milliseconds; single-threaded on a 2.5GHz Intel CPU and with no attempt to optimize the ADSP! Planning to get a beta build to the patrons in a few weeks.

Sonic 4 Episode 2 is a masterpiece and it's a shame that nobody gave it a chance because Ep1 was bad.

Today's big discovery is a Sonic 4 Episode 2 prototype leak where the only difference is the full "To be continued" cutscene to set up Ep 3. We've had audio for this since 2012, but no visuals. Shoutouts to LunarCryptik and NukelEdge for uploading this footage.
