Wow. Honestly, I couldn’t get into Pokémon Unite, but this is still pretty surprising to hear.

Serebii Update: Pokémon UNITE will reach end of service on March 23rd 2027 at 00:00 UTC for both mobile and Nintendo Switch www.serebii.net

I believe that if your company undergoes layoffs during a set amount of time after a sale or acquisition, there should be some kind of massive financial penalty or forced restitution. You can afford to buy a company, but you can’t afford the staff? Then you can’t afford to buy the company.

This post is unavailable.

Normal conspiracy theories force you to ignore or gloss over specific facts. Someone once pointed out that the conspiracy theory Trump had Epstein killed becomes increasingly plausible as more details come out, and now you have to excuse and ignore facts to believe he actually killed himself.

Prem Thakker ツ@premthakker.bsky.social

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

Look, maybe he really did kill himself, but the circumstances are pretty damn weird, and the president was really close with this guy, and theres an increasingly large amount of evidence that Trump was an active participant in the stuff that landed Epstein in jail.

Wait, did PlayStation do that thing where they seem to be timing bad news on a day when everyone is going to be paying attention to Microsoft? Because it seems to have happened a lot of times.

Microsoft is offering buyouts to about 60,000 employees in latest cost cuts, roughly a quarter of its workforce, as the company tries to control its head count while avoiding layoffs ➡️ www.seattletimes.com/business/mic...

PlayStation’s got like three studios that are regularly putting out games this generation and they’re gonna have layoffs at one of them? Come on, man.

Nathan Grayson@nathangrayson.bsky.social

sad news to start the week: layoffs have hit sucker punch

Sony ought to be sending holiday hams to every single employee at Insomniac, Sucker Punch, and Santa Monica Studio this year, because they’re the only internal developers keeping the PlayStation brand relevant right now.

I love a horror movie that baits the audience in with one subgenre, and then pivots at the midway point. The Circle on Shudder does just that, beginning as a forsenic murder mystery, and then pivoting to… well, that would be telling! And it stars Daredevil’s Deborah Ann Woll! Big recommendation!

Came across this in my Pokémon Crystal replay. It’s super weird that Gen 2 references “Bye Bye Butterfree,” but they didn’t make the pink Butterfree the Shiny version.

It took way, way too long for it to happen, but I feel like Musk shutting off Ukraine’s satellite access has been a come to Jesus moment for the media and the Democrats. I’m hearing way more talk about going after him this week, and you know what: let’s go. He needs to be in prison.

Do you think the world’s richest man should be allowed to personally interfere with wars? Or be able to shut off access to USAID, killing countless people? These questions are layups.

OF COURSE it was Alex Tuch that got the overtime game winner. You know, the 30+ goal scorer the Sabres let go without replacing him, because that’s a smart decision.

Finished Crystal Lake. It definitely has its flaws, but it’s easily one of the best things that’s ever been done with Friday the 13th. A low bar, I know, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Date night to see Kevin Nealon! Hands down, one of the best sets I’ve been to. He was on stage for about 100 minutes, most of which was material, but also did a lot of crowd work and opened up the floor to questions, telling stories about Chris Farley, Norm MacDonald, and more.

I really liked Clayface! James Watkins did a great job making this a horror movie first, but also making it feel like a Batman movie (sans Batman). You could really feel the reverence for the Timm/Dini cartoon, yet they never shied away from the elements you’d expect from a true body horror flick.

Xbox tried this same thing with Ninja Theory, where they tried to sell them with a near finished game. I can see why it didn’t work with Senua (a series that has never sold well), but this is stupid with a near-finished Marvel game. Just let them finish freaking Blade, man.

Kotaku@kotaku.com

Put Blade in the bag and nobody gets hurt! https://kotaku.com/arkane-devs-say-blade-is-nearly-finished-but-if-it-cant-find-a-buyer-soon-the-studio-will-close-2000749096

One Crystal Lake episode left to watch, and I don’t mind the new origin they gave Jason. The Stranger Things influence is undeniable, but I think it works because the show is still so rooted in all things Friday the 13th. They definitely didn’t shy away from the violence and gore.

Love when I get to scoop up cheap comedy tickets for a date night! Wife and I just snagged $20 tickets to see Kevin Nealon tomorrow, which will now make two SNL alums we’ve seen live (the other being Tim Meadows).

I’ve heard really great things about pretty much all of these games. This is a solid NSO group right after that good GBA update.

A humble start for what ended up being one of the best things ever done with Transformers as a brand. I liked this first issue, but had hesitations about getting invested in TF comics after Dreamwave fell apart. Not only did they make it work, but it lasted longer than any other TF continuity!

It’s weird that Pokémon GO has made so many changes over the years, but they still haven’t fixed this thing where Pokémon can sit at Gyms indefinitely if no one challenges it. It should just switch back to a neutral Gym at a certain point, or allow the Trainer to eventually call it back.

i am grateful to live in a world without Calvin & Hobbes’ faces being plastered on shitty merchandise, but watterson also lived in a bygone era where there was the slimmest insitutional chance of a cartoonist making enough (or more than enough!) just from a comic strip.

The last 15ish years have seen big tech trying to blow up the ways media is produced and consumed, and it’s in pursuit of greed at all costs. And we’re finding that there were good reasons the models for video games, movies, and TV all existed the way that they did.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot with these retailers opening at midnight for Ocarina of Time, and how movie theaters are seeing a big renaissance as everyone pushes back against streaming, and how the biggest shows on streaming are the ones that got 8-12 seasons on cable and network television.

Every one is sick and tired of our experiences and ownership being taken from us, and everything being heavily monetized but everything being worse. All the models used to work better for workers and consumers and now they only work for those at the top.

When the dust settles, we are looking at a western gaming industry that is either nonexistent or significantly altered. Japan’s laws have ensured that the major publishers keep their legacy talent, and those older devs have trained the new guard. Western publishers have zero respect for talent.

And this is, really, an extension of the fact that western companies in general don’t have respect for their workers. But video games desperately need experienced people steering the ship, and when you don’t have that, the quality and timeliness both take a hit.

Credits rolled on Splatoon Raiders! Very charming addition to the Splatoon franchise, and the most I’ve gotten into a single-player game in this series. I love how out of control the enemies on screen can get. Really hope some of the game’s ideas influence Splatoon 4.

That retcon in the fifth episode of Crystal Lake is pretty interesting. Totally caught me off guard. I’m really wondering how they wrap all this up in three episodes.

So, this is the last Xbox console. Got it. Also, my theory that they’re sunsetting Game Pass in the near future remains the most likely scenario.

When my youngest was born, my wife had an unplanned c-section, and the recovery was really hard. But my job offered 3 months paid family leave, so she got to recuperate while I got up for late night feedings, and took care of our 2 kids. That’s not a “bumper sticker.” It was massive for my family.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

MN GOP HOUSE CANDIDATE JOSH JUNGLING: Paid family medical leave is a bumper sticker law. It sounds good on a bumper sticker DFL CANDIDATE ZACK STEPHENSON: It's not a bumper sticker if you have a new baby or a sick parent. I think it's a necessity

When my oldest was born, I only got 4 days off, and I cannot even tell you how strained things were for 2 new parents trying to navigate this totally new life while I still just went to work full-time like nothing had happened. Republicans pressure people to have kids, but never want to help.

I love Phantom Menace and this is the first time I’m hearing this. I believe it, but this is absolutely wild to me. Turns out the Phantom Menace was George Lucas the whole time.
