Speaking of defamation, I’ve been pretty quiet on this account lately, but I took the time today to write a letter to CTV News, copying my MP, about this case involving @rachelgilmore.bsky.social — and why it is so critically important. Here it is:

It's rare in defamation cases that you can draw a straight line between someone lying about you and you losing work. But, um, not in this case.

Right on Vancouver. 🎉 Happy to report we subbed out our old gas hot water tank & heater for a heat pump, as well as switched to EVs, & it’s a welcome net savings every month, as well as a relief to be free of fossil furls in those areas.

fantastic, it shouldn't even be a discussion at this point in history IMHO, heat pumps, solar packages, should be options offered in new home builds also electric charging stations for vehicles

This article will not age well. It’s a poorly informed hit piece. It is also a glaring example of both false balance and sensationalism (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_b...). Oh look, a bunch of people flocked over to bluesky saying it’s better, let’s attack that to provide “balance” and clickbait.

This obsession is unhealthy. Our horizons are fine. Also social media, for most, is not a job. It is not school. It is socializing. And it’s fine to say “I don’t want to hang out with Nazis, homophobes, transphobes etc in my free time.”

Also, the ppl on bluesky ARE incredibly silly, irreverent & funny. Like many even more than other cyberspaces I’ve been in. There are so many smart, diverse, & creative ppl here, I’ve found the humour to be off the charts. This claim is just demonstrably wrong.

Now that a huge contingent on the #climatechange & #energy communities are here, does anyone know if Bluesky has published sustainability reports? They are a public benefit corp, so shouldn’t they have an energy/ghg report? LCA? If not would be great to get that going @jay.bsky.team

That two of the largest petrostates - both determined to be the last man standing in a desperate effort to pump as much oil & gas as they possibly can - are urging the US to stay committed to the Paris Agreement, tells us a lot about what they think the Paris Agreement is for.

The primary energy fallacy is the idea that all primary energy from fossil fuels must be replaced with an equivalent amount of clean energy. BUT: This is not necessary because conversion losses do not need to be replaced. More than 2/3 of all primary energy is lost as waste heat.

Has BlueSky reached critical mass for a hive mind exercise in international law? Let's try. I love the fact that most treaties are equally binding in several languages. Particularly when the language versions diverge. What is your favorite example of such a divergence? I'll give you an example /1

The scale of China’s EV revolution is a fascinating backdrop to the recent regressive turn in US politics that has promoting fossil fuels as a core principle… 🧐 (graph source: evboosters.com/ev-charging-...)

The US is the second largest auto market in the world behind China. We normally buy 15 million or so new cars in a year. Just for some idea of the scale of what China is doing.

This echoes what @sarahkendzior.bsky.social said and even though I’m not in the US rn, Canada’s a few months away fm likely repeating a similar drama. And already, I can feel it, the twisting in the lower stomach, the effect that the fascist turn has when your state pivots that way decisively.
