The US Administration is poised to announce a new $100,000 tax on international students who work even briefly after graduation. This is not the H-1B tax, it's new and additional. Today @iza.org released my new estimates of the economic effects of that tax —>

East Palo Alto City Council is scheduled to discuss the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance tonight at our meeting on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026. East Palo Alto needs to recognize that we gave Inclusionary Housing a try and it does not work in our community.

Renters shouldn't have to hire scouts to find a decent apartment in their price range. When you build a lot of new housing, landlords must compete for tenants—not the other way around. (Indeed, it's the only way that rents ever fall!) www.latimes.com/lifestyle/st...

You actually do not have to apologize to the bad faith assholes who apply the maximally uncharitable interpretation to every single thing you say and do, even if those assholes have marginalized identities.

Housing is distributed by people’s ability to pay. Refusing to build expensive new homes in your neighborhood does not make the rich people disappear or move elsewhere, it just ensures that they’ll outbid current residents for existing homes and renovate them into luxury housing.

The very simple concept that many on this site refuse to understand is that people have to live somewhere, if a rich person can’t find a new luxury unit, they will be taking the next best thing available

epasun.org/on-the-front... We have a lot of work to do in East Palo Alto to meet the housing shortage caused by a generation of underinvestment in new housing supply. We must pivot away from a failed housing strategy and move towards one that meets the housing needs of today.

epasun.orgOn the Front Lines of East Palo Alto's Housing CrisisWhen I was running for office last year, I knocked on doors in every neighborhood of East Palo Alto. One of the most memorable conversations I had was with a Guatemalan woman in the Gardens. Her famil...

Perhaps the most significant news is that we're working to get a new track field, soccer field, library, and City Hall built on the Bloomhouse site on Pulgas Avenue. We'll have more updates on this major project as it moves forward.

• Emergency Preparedness: We're getting the city ready for the eventual earthquake that we can expect to happen in our lifetime by funding new emergency response measures.

• Community and Cultural Events: We've funded movies, music, and other cultural events at the EPACENTER. Look forward to live music of every type, including jazz, blues, salsa, banda, reggae, samba, bossa nova, and mariachi.

• New Park and Street Lighting: We've funded new field lighting for both Jack Farrell and Martin Luther King parks, which will allow kids to practice past 5 p.m. during the winter. We're also funding new street lighting to make our streets safer and better lit.

• Code Enforcement: We've directed and funded staff to enforce our code on "Tier III" violations, which include things like broken-down vehicles, trash and old furniture in front yards, and overgrown vegetation blocking sidewalks.

• Parking Enforcement: New funding for parking enforcement will help remove unregistered and broken-down vehicles and increase enforcement of the 72-hour parking rule.

“Inclusionary zoning” is one of those policies that sounds great at first but then when you look at the actual impact it ends up just being a massive tax on new apartments that exempts single family homes, accomplishing the exact opposite of the intended effect

FYI, East Palo Alto has a life expectancy between 75.8 - 81.3 years. I have recently seen people claiming that EPA has a life expectancy of 62 year, 20 years less than other cities in EPA. This data - which is on the city website - is not accurate.

Today, the House votes on whether to begin the process of gutting Medicaid, throwing millions off their health care & making it worse for those who remain. Trump says he doesn’t want to cut Medicaid, but he’s letting the GOP push this. As usual, he’s lying. All to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

Who cares if there is a project that can be built with 25% affordable if there are twenty others you've prevented by that preposterous requirement?
