Let's talk about writing, books, MN sports, politics, art, science, philosophy, and, most importantly, puns. Living in New England, still feel Minnesotan. Sometimes have fever dreams about Jabberjaw.

Wolves had their chances. Lost a close game to a good team on a b2b. Need to take care of business against GS and LAC this week, and then we’ll see how they stack up with the very good teams—San Antonio and Houston.

Sweet Thor, what a move by Brink after that careless Vancouver turnover. Wild have been fighting it most of the night but the power play settled them. Now a goal from nothing. 2-0 for the Fightin’ Quinns in BC.

Hughes gets the goal in his return. Point 500. 3-0. Vancouver played an inspired opening 15 min of the game but when they didn’t score, and MN did on the pp, it broke them somewhat. Wild have slowly taken over in the 2nd.

Weird to see the Wolves get off to a good start at home. Last two years, felt like they’d be down 21-9 with 4 min left in the quarter. Doesn’t mean they’ll win or even play well the next 3 quarters, but it’s good to see energy and execution from the jump.

Really liked what Kuminga has provided so far. Not just accepting a limited role, but doing it efficiently and providing very good defense. And TJ having a great bench showing is a fantastic sign.

Brazil was of two huge election results today—alongside the defeat of the nationalist, authoritarian leader of Serbia: "the slate of candidates selected by protesting students had won at least 135 seats in Serbia’s 250-member legislature" www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/w...

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Vikings would definitely win the old Big Ten West (rip). In all seriousness, the defense just cannot do any more. The offense is Gophers/Iowa/Wisconsin with significantly more NIL. The best news? Undefeated AND can credibly use the “no one believes in us” trope. Win-Win.

And then why wouldn’t you make Indy burn their last timeout. You aren’t picking up 3rd and 16. Run for a few yards. Been a rough year playcalling for KOC.

Vikings get their big, physical short rb back for this game. Don’t use him on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1. Fantastic. They really do make offense look impossible at times.

Look, Rodgers did his own research and discovered that, turns out, the Peaky Blinders was set in Paris. He definitely likes wearing blinders, we know that.

This is so funny

Manchester United should just start hiring 3 managers each season. They may surpass Chelsea as the EPL’s “you’ll want to rent month to month” club.

Tonight should close the books on even the faintest playoff hopes. (Season was over a while ago tbh.) There will be cries of bad luck. But you don’t get to be one of the worst teams the league for 5 months and then talk about bad luck. Loons knew they had to win. And failed to score. #MNUFC

Bad teams find multiple ways to lose points. Loons usually prefer conceding before you’ve sat down to watch. Tonight, they let a flat Hou off the hook by failures to break down a defense. Loons are versatile like that. Remember, this team will score fewer goals in ‘26 than in both Ramsay seasons.

And now the Loons back to 13th. Not just 5 pts behind LAG for 9th, but 4 behind RSL for 10th, 2 behind Por for 11th and even behind SD for 12th (goal differential).

Loons scoreless with Houston. Rare low event half. Loons a couple half chances. Playoff hopes are minuscule, but whatever hopes there are require all 3 points. Frankly, I’m just in shock the Loons played an entire opening half without conceding, like glimpsing Halley’s Comet. #MNUFC

Smoltz just admitted to not knowing who was hitting. In a World Series game.

That was close. Loons have basically conceded in the opening 30 every match since what feels mid May. (Only slight exaggeration.) That VAR check made it interesting. But they made it. Remember when it was legitimately shocking when the Loons conceded in the first half?

Ski-U-Hog! Fightin’ Flecks win the pig! (But Sweet Thor, PJ got bailed out by his kicker after horrific game management.) Great game by the defense. Just kept the team in it and kept fighting even when the offense refused to move the ball forward for entire quarters.

This Fightin’ Flecks/ Iowa game is very on brand. 35 yards of offense so far for Minn. Settled for a Fleck Special (short fg) after a blocked punt. Iowa got a first down on a fake punt, then went -5 yds. Also has a red zone pick.

Can’t make it up. Offense given two chances to put the game on ice with just a short drive. 6 plays. 1 yd. Punts and Iowa gets 2 big pass plays and it’s even.

Unreal implosion. 3 and out. -10 yards. Even by Fleck standards, this offense is a disaster. Now Iowa can win with a short drive. Lindsey has had a bad season, given all the hype and expectation.

lol again. Defense forced another turnover. Offense now just needs 2 first downs to get a FG. Can they do the minimum to put it away?

The Fightin’ Flecks decide to utilize the forward pass, flummoxing Iowa. After a bizarre wasted timeout on the 1 yard line, and funny Iowa penalties, the FFs finally get the TD. More yards on that drive than in the first half. Plus used almost 7 minutes.

The defense has been tremendous. Another Iowa drive that started in MN territory gets stopped. Even better, a turnover to give the Flecks good field position. This is where the offense needs to help. Get 3-4 first downs, get a FG. Put Iowa in a near impossible situation.

lol. Iowa goes -3 yards and ties it with a FG. Still, Iowa has the advantage as they have, on occasion, advanced the ball forward ever so slightly.

Great job by the defense. Somehow have only given up 3 despite Iowa starting at the 11 and the 44. Fightin’ Flecks get the ball to start the 2nd, not sure that’s a good thing after failing to get 75 yards of offense in the first half.

LMAO JD Vance's speech in Ohio is off to a great start

Happy for the fans who kept attending and for people like me who kept watching. It’s a bad team. They won’t even get into the WC. But for 50 minutes they provided some long-awaited joy and relief. And ended StL’s historic run. Hang. The. Banner. #MNUFC

Matthew Doyle@mattdoyle.bsky.social

Pretty incredible turnout for MNUFC fans today given how shit this team's been since July. They deserve this.

Given the last home win was during the Carter admin, I imagine fans just left as Wonderwall played thinking, “Huh, odd choice for a song at the end of a soccer match in Minnesota. I wonder why they chose that.”

At least the Loons gave us an entertaining 2nd hf, regardless of the outcome. As someone who has, like a moron, continued to watch this team, I appreciate the rare moments of unexpected quality & precision. St Louis will regret just shutting it down after 10 min, even if they rally for a pt. #MNUFC

One of the Loons’ favorite bits this year is to concede so often and so early that they can rack up xG once the game state changes and the opposition sits deeper. Then it can be used to convince people they were much better than the final score. That half was a prime example. #MNUFC

The Loons can say they bring a youthful joy to the game … in that watching them is like watching a bunch of little kids running around a field chasing the ball, unsure what to do with it when it reaches them. Just vibes. Smile and run. #MNUFC

Probably not a great sign that the longer this group of players has been with this coaching staff, the worse they look. After every break—offseason, WC, international—they look even more disorganized and dire. #MNUFC
