The Proud Boys/Oath Keepers crew will be activated and it's probably going to be Jan 2029, but they're going to do J6 again. You can count on it.

Micah@rincewind.run

I think they bitch and moan and scream about FRAUD and get laughed out of court and spend the next two years getting in increasingly dangerous spats with congress where they just flatly ignore oversight and budget stuff, aided and abetted by the Court I don't think Jan 3 ends with gunfire

I don’t understand how anyone can be pro-AI when, in this moment, the term AI is a catch-all for a future constructed by rapacious corporations run by people we all hate, whose core products we all agree have gotten worse. Maybe AI will eventually be a beneficial, but not under these conditions.

There’s a reason Dubai is the haven for affluent selfish people. Cultural history and diversity is not something to nourish but instead filter out of view so certain people can enjoy a walled off homogeneous existence with others in the same tier of hierarchy

The objection isn't and has never been to immigrants, it's to immigrants who receive equal rights to whites. Slaves and servants that they can exploit, abuse and rape, (i.e. the way the Gulf States treat their South Asian guest worker populations) is their actual long-term goal, *not* deportations

Who is the best athlete relative to their sport you saw play live? I'm gonna say Mia Hamm at the 1996 Olympics.

This has always been something no coding agent booster has ever been able to explain. If these tools are highly proficient at coding then wouldn’t it mean hackers can increase their effectiveness at scale? If they aren’t this good at coding then isn’t that also a huge security risk?

That his surge is almost entirely Swalwell defectors doesn't help the Becerra appeal. If they're such savvy politics-knowers then why were they easy marks in the first place?

It's insane how, even among those who use AI casually/moderately to do actual work, it's accepted 1) the major tech platforms are horrible and hurting society 2) those companies are run by evil people and 3) the tech is "inevitable" and consumers will somehow cause them (how?) to make it better.

If you read this as Bari speaking only for herself, replacing the "we/us/they" with "me/I/myself" then it makes perfect sense.

Justin Baragona@justinbaragona.bsky.social

Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair." One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."

I guarantee you Cinnabon has on boarding and annual training around protected classes and code of conduct and it 100% says you will be disciplines for verbally harassing customers. What are we doing here?

i also believe in building a better world for workers. i also believe that all people are entitled to respect and dignity and that there ought to be social sanction for those who openly degrade others. you call me a “n*gger” to my face and i am not going to smile and shake your hand.

So poetic the answer made possible by the hardware from the world's most valuable company is totally wrong based on the technology that made said company the most valuable.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

wait. that's not right. 259 shares of Nvidia is not worth $9.4 million today. Off by several orders of magnitude! It's worth like $45,000 (not including reinvesting dividends but that can't come close to bridging the gap) God, AI sucks ass

This is a very odd way to show your side is the “virtuous” one who “represents goodness.” “Ah you see, we are forces for love and goodness. Now allow me to berate, demean, and dehumanize anyone who disagrees with me”

One of the biggest mistakes left-of-center pundits and influencers made was decamping to Bluesky. They made themselves irrelevant, shrunk their audiences, and dramatically lessened the positive impact they could have on our public debate at the precise time we needed it most.

If your plan is to paint the Democrats as America's Hamas then you need way better cards than what this admin has. They drew pocket twos and are pushing their chips in the middle before the flop has even come.

Vance: "While our side of the aisle certainly has its crazies, it is a statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far-Left."

Ivan Juarez-Mrazek reposted

The reason affluent media people are such suckers for “civility” is that the actual content of most politics has no real stakes for them personally. If you want to find these people’s true political feelings, mess with their money.

This is so insightful and also BLEAK. People over 30 who aren't already marinating in internet sludge all day do not understand the perpetual motion machine of meme <=> IRL actions <=> escalating memes <=> escalating actions.

Charlie Kirk was killed by a meme www.garbageday.email/p/charlie-ki...

We already did this bullshit with Alan Colmes 25 years ago and look what good it did. It legitimized Hannity as the preeminent right wing kingmaker and Colmes was eventually demoted to part-time pundit while Fox grew into a Borg of racism and hate.

These people are so unaware of being personally influenced by constantly immersing themselves in a firehose blast of Nazi propaganda that she doesn't even list that as one of the considerations www.theargumentmag.com/p/we-have-to...

I think much like how kids decided to become punk rockers or greasers because it alienated their parents' generations, we need to reckon with how being Fascist in college serves the same purpose. Affectations that inform an ideology.

Robots to free up time to do…all things they are trying to make us wholly dependent on AI to do for us.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

Once you get past the initial "Wow! A robot!", I'm not sure what a personal robot would do for me? There's not really any physical task that I would want it to do for longer than like fifteen minutes.

We live in the golden (dystopian) era of audience capture

humans are not designed for the amount of feedback being a public figure on social media provides. Whether it's praise or criticism, receiving an avalanche of nonstop attention is profoundly corrosive to your brain.

It's very telling to me how flimsy the "evidence" against Abrego Garcia is that not even NEWSMAX can produce a menacing looking photo of him

"My family can't be robbed from another day without seeing Kilmar. This administration has already taken so much from my children, from Kilmar's mother, brother, sisters, and me."

This premise is also completely false. Andressen Horowitz has cornered the market on redefining what a "successful" company is specifically to avoid the scenario he outlines for as long as possible.

People like Casey operate on the base assumption that the smartest people are all in Silicon Valley and therefore talking to anyone outside of there is superfluous. It ignores the many researchers in academia who have been studying this for DECADES and are far more skeptical of AGI's inevitability

just wanted to add to the chorus of voices here confirming that "I talk to the companies" is not some silver bullet to understanding what is going on in any frontier tech, in fact over-relying on this kind of access is often the easiest way to get things wrong

There are a lot of reasons they’re intentionally tanking the economy right now but number one is softening the job market.

Oh so government spending doesn't count? Can we apply that to the numerous contracts subsidizing your companies?

Brian Beutler@brianbeutler.bsky.social

The numbers get worse for these guys if you create a fake GDP along these lines. What happened here is Elon and Trump crashed the economy in less than two months and Elon’s now whining about macro indicators to cover his ass like a little bitch.

I think their CEO would claim he was “working and productive” remotely and expect people to believe it without irony

Tristan Snell@tristansnell.bsky.social

Tesla’s shareholders just lost another $38,640,000,000 today — a total $TSLA loss of $600 billion since December. Tesla’s CEO was not in the office. In literally any other public company ever, this would be the point where the CEO gets fired.
