You really need to work hard to be the most obsequious member of Trump’s cabinet — by, for instance, eating lunch at Cheesecake Factory and alerting Fox Business, so they can interview you in defense of Obama’s joke about the White House decor. Well done Secretary Bessent! Your move, Doug Burgum!

… Also, not to be too nerdy and pedantic, but in the interview Bessent said that Obama’s library looks like “Darth Vader’s tomb,” when obviously Vader’s body was burned at the end of ROTJ, and the proper comparison is with Darth Vader’s Fortress on Mustafar.

People may as well hold him to it

JEFFRIES: “.. we’re going to hold him accountable in the same way that we held Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem accountable. .. And Pete Hegseth needs to be pushed aside by the president, or we’re going to have to deal with that situation if he is not.” www.politico.com/live-updates...

Trump's closing midterms message? Gas and ass. Good luck, America.

Tbf he’s quoting all his rich Republican friends who are in or sometimes to have go to dc and they’re all gigantic pussies

Trump on DC: "Nobody wanted to eat out. They were afraid. Even if you were in the restaurant, people would walk in and like the Wild West, 'Hold it up!' Everybody is standing there. Can you imagine? A fancy restaurant. They were robbing the whole restaurant. It's crazy."

I’ve had to deal with these people and some wouldn’t step outside during the summer of 2020 because of the protests and rioting and sometimes they’d text me this while I was standing in the middle of it

I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

As someone else said, in a truly free and fair election, no one has to panic about having a “plan” to vote. You just vote.

If they actually want to get thru the next two years, there’s not really another choice

NEWS --> Dems are planning novel ways to wield power of the purse against Trump's corrupt prosecutions of critics like Ilhan Omar if they win House. Reps Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin tell me a range of aggressive tactics will be deployed. Details in my new piece: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

"Overwhelmingly, these sources said that what was most unsettling to them was that for many months, they’ve been wargaming & meticulously planning how to defend their upcoming elections from Trump in ways that mirror how they’d plan to protect elections from a foreign adversary, not the pres of US"

It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising

Yes. My median scenario is Trump rants, it becomes their talking point, DOJ probably files some more junk suits like these, but then not much else happens. There's real risk of worse, some full push to go insane on Jan 3, but more likely it doesn't get that far, and also that would still fail.

All the millions of tax dollars spent creating a structure to combat these trump-led onslaughts is a dollar that could have conceivably gone to something else and money that should not have to be spent in the first place and it would be completely irresponsible at this point to *not* spend those…

House Judiciary Democrats have just released a 50-page report that pulls together years of assault allegations against Trump and his reported connections to Jeffrey Epstein. The report calls for a special counsel to investigate Trump's ties to Epstein.

Even if you’re a business owner or a church leader who is voting for him why would you want to deal with the social media hate, flood of bad reviews, phone calls, customer complaints, or protesters

What this situation actually is, is that it's on YOU people to fucking not disappoint in November to hopefully perhaps undercut the Trump state department's ongoing campaign to turn Latin America into a far-right circus side show.

Just rewatched the opening shots of the new CARRIE; and this is supposed to be a small town; doesn’t it look like a suburb near like Boston or something? Look at the aerial shot during the fires, am I wrong to think that’s too much light and infrastructure to be a “small town”
