It’s much too early for nesting, this pileated woodpecker is preparing for the coming storm, by building a winter roost to shelter in. #comingstorm #winterstorm #snowstorm #shelterfromthestorm #staywarm #snowandice #winterwildlife #beprepared #naturewatch #winterwatch

It would be important to include meat and dairy in the campaign: the industry doesn't just emit a significant amount of greenhouse gases but it also impacts the environment, animal lives and human health in many other ways www.theguardian.com/environment/... @andrewsimms.bsky.social

theguardian.comMeat is a leading emissions source – but few outlets report on it, analysis findsSentient Media reveals less than 4% of climate news stories mention animal agriculture as source of carbon emissions

Anyway if you wanna know how this administration *actually* feels about carnivore conservation, you should probably read my recent @vox.com story about the potential torpedoing of the Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program. www.vox.com/down-to-eart...

vox.comLess than 20 red wolves remain in the wild. We had a plan to save them. Then Trump got in the way.

The fact that this is all happening with wolves in particular — the animals the GOP has always most wanted to exterminate from the actual landscape — makes it feel especially ill-intentioned and nefarious.

The beauty of a male red-winged blackbird often gets overlooked, as they are seen as common. I'm filled with joy when I see one. Those striking epaulettes, wow! I love their calls too - always reminds me of spring. #InternationalBirdDay #BirdoftheDay #blackbird #redwing #birdlife #soakupthesun

Appeal Court *very slightly* reduces sentences on some of the 16 peaceful climate protesters, jailed for total of 41 years. This isn’t justice. People desperate for climate action to save lives treated like organised criminals, while big oil & gas get away with ecocide @defendourjuries.bsky.social

Trying to find ways to distract myself from the news and I came across this time-lapse video from a snowstorm a few years back. Sadly my battery died and so I didn't record the full amount, but the snow continued until the next day. #distraction #timelapse #snowstorm

All art fails when trying to capture the Grand Canyon and there are simply no words to describe it. A visceral experienced, once encountered, it is never forgotten. #NationalParks #AltNationalParks #GrandCanyon #Resist #Publiclands #Thislandismylandthislandisyourland

It’s the hungry season and here’s the first coyote I’ve ever caught on camera. We had rain a few days ago that then froze on top of snow. Listen to the ice cracking as the coyotes paws fall through to the snow below. #coyote #winterwildlife #trailcam

The frozen Hudson or Muhheakanruck/Mahicantuck as the estuary was originally known along this stretch - "river that flows two ways" #muhheakantuck #mahicantuck #hudsonriver #frozenwater #riverinwinter #riverthatflowstwoways #riverscape #estuary

Did you know blue pigment is quite rare in nature? Although my jay friend here this morning appears to have blue feathers, the melanin in them is actually brown. We perceive it as blue because of a phenomenon called light scattering. Light scattering is similar to the effects of a prism.🪶

Most coffee is grown on sun-grown farms that clear the land remove the forest canopy and all the resources migratory birds depend on for survival in winter. Shade-grown coffee farms preserve this ecosystem. Look for Bird Friendly® certification! Learn more at birdfriendly.si.edu #DrinkBirdFriendly
