Got to admit it's been a while since I played a Bioware game, but Baldur's Gate 2 specifically was THE game for me for many years. If I had to name a single title that cemented my love for games, there's no doubt in my mind it would have to be BG2.

jessica harvey@jessiscah23.bsky.social

Man, Bioware was -pivotal- as a kid & teen. I was something of an odd one out at school; console gaming was The Thing and FF7&7 the de facto definition of what an RPG was. Me in the corner muttering about Baldur's Gate... they didn't understand...

17th century theatrical prose please!

Dominic Tarason@dominictarason.com

Do not sleep on this one. Narrative deckbuilding shenanigans (with maybe a little Inscryption inspiration) from the makers of The Magic Circle and The Blackout Club. Also the first thing the game asks is if you want the script and voicework in modern english or 17th century theatrical prose.

Finished Penguin Colony. It's not as smooth as Umurangi, but has amazing vibes and a twist on Lovecraft that is worth experiencing. Also, lots of secrets left to uncover! But before any talk about the gameplay & story, I just want to share this screenshot. Kudos to @veselekov.bsky.social & the team

The Witcher 3 just got a remaster and Halloween is around the corner. A good moment to republish and share an old article on the Crones of Crookback Bog that I had a lot of fun writing and researching. Enjoy! @thewitcher.com www.mashxtomuse.com/the-fairy-ta...

Tenebris Somnia is one of the most interesting horror games I've played in a long while and it's much deeper than it looks at first. Come for the live action cutscenes (which are extremely neat), and stay for the nuanced story, Hermetic symbolism and psychological depth.

You really shouldn't tell a professional writer you "improved" their copy by feeding it into a chatbot shredder and stapling the pieces back together as a bullet point list. I think that's a bit rude.

Sold-out for nearly a year, From Ants to Zombies: Six Decades of Video Game Horror is back in stock on June 17, along with several other excellent titles, including The Games that Weren't, I'm Too Young To Die & 50 Indie Games that Changed the World.

I'm always puzzled by the argument "we have limited resources so we have to use AI". Doesn't the appeal of indie games lie exactly in personal creative choices and an intimate, handmade feel? Why does everything need to be polished?

so Horses was a problem, but Valve I guess is fine with this racist crap that flagrantly violates at least two of its content guidelines and has 300+ reviews that all almost certainly violate those guidelines too kotaku.com/racist-plant...

Reading the Decameron and can't stop thinking about how that guy wrote a hundred short stories brimming with life in the middle of maybe the single worst catastrophe in human history. 700 years later, a voicemail from an unknown caller is enough to derail my creative flow for an entire afternoon.

My companions now include: a dromad caravan, a Naphtali band, a horde of baboons, a couple of wardens, "pope" Eschelstadt, a legendary twoheaded pig pariah, a lethal rocking chair and a clone of myself

SURVIVAL HORROR IN THE ALPS FFS! No AI slop in my game... For your consideration: Mundaun - a lovingly hand-pencilled horror tale. It's at 93% positive on Steam. It's on a steep sale right now. All human made. Sound. Voice acting in a language I don't even speak! BUY IT -> SUPPORT HUMAN (me)

Tried Marathon on a whim mostly because I liked the vibes and heard the people behind Caves of Qud consulted on it. Most multiplayer online games aren't for me, but I'm surprised by how much fun I've been having so far pestering other players with my thieving drone and dying in stupid ways.

It's a brutal game but also more forgiving than I thought it would be. Going in with trashy gear and getting out with some decent loot is not that hard as long as you run as fast as you can the moment you hear another player's footsteps. Not exactly dignified, but it works.
