[XCOM 2 - Star Wars edition!] Hello friends! In the next few weeks, it's time for me to start a new XCOM campaign! The theme this time? STAR WARS. I'm playing as though XCOM is a contingent of Clone troopers and their allies fighting to take back a planet from Separatist invaders. Want in?

Just leave a comment! Put your name, requested call-sign, and what kind of fighter you'd like to be. I'm using all-new classes, including the Jedi class, though I'm likely to only ever have 1-2 Jedi on my team. First come first serve!

PS: I have access to a ton of Star Wars alien species, so let me know what you want to be! Also, giving me a quick description or reference picture would help me build the character.

I had a period in high school where I wrote sonnets. Full iambic pentameter, ABAB rhyme scheme, rhyming couplet at the end, the whole shebang. They were all awful, but that wasn't the point. Working within that very restrictive structure allowed me to be more creative than I'd ever been.

Friction is so important to creative work that people *add* friction to allow themselves to do it. Just one example: meter, in poetry. You create a framework that restricts you, that limits you, in order to give your thoughts a scaffold within which to build.

Exactly this. Homophobic jokes about homophobic people is still homophobia. Knock it off.

Jared Yates Sexton@jysexton.bsky.social

Hey, just a humble, respectful request. For the love of fucking god, stop fucking attacking Donald Trump with blatant and repulsive homophobia. If you think going after fascists by calling them gay or producing AI slop of them in dresses or making out, you're part of the fucking problem.

Home sick today and probably tomorrow. Feel like absolute trash. Yet for some reason the thing my brain is most stressed about is the fact that my cat is worried about me. I'm sorry, Blackjack. I didn't mean to make you worry.

The guy who goes into the "Boo Box" near the beginning of Hook was played by Glenn Close.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

Sometimes I wonder how @chucktingle.bsky.social stays so positive. I try, but I see so many people acting to hurt my queer and trans siblings. I feel the need to clap back. And some of the time, I do clap back, in a way that doesn't feel much like Proving Love. But it is. I do this FOR love.

If I didn't clap back at those who want to DISprove love, what kind of person would I be? I prove love every day. Both by pushing back against those who say love isn't real, and by being my own authentic, bisexual self. Chuck, you are a guiding star, reminding me of who I ought to aspire to be.

This is true: Sometimes I ask myself "What would Chuck Tingle think of this post I'm about to make?" It's something I think about all the time. I don't always do what I think Chuck would approve of. But I'm always considering his perspective, and I think that's beautiful.

I know there are worse things in the world, but I really hate it when people use the word LARP to mean "to pretend." Like saying the Proud Boys are LARPing as soldiers. No they're not. They're pretending to be soldiers. LARP is so, so much more than that.

BRITISH BAKING SHOW WEEK 3 For this week's signature challenge, I made a strawberry cheesecake with kiwi-strawberry sauce and fresh sliced kiwi. Honestly one of the nicest-looking bakes I've ever made, and damn tasty as well!

This is an excellent example of how people can use math to lie to you. See, what this guy is really saying is that $30,000 spread out over the course of a lifetime might not be life-changing. But anyone with a brain can tell that an immediate infusion of $30,000 would be. Context matters.

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

It is, as said above, about 1% of expected lifetime earnings. We have lots of data on how much people's lives change in response to a large windfall around $30k. It's basically not very much.

It reminds me of that time when Matt Yglesias said that the median amount of student debt in America is zero. While technically true, it doesn't actually support the conclusion he was trying to support, same as the post above.

Tomorrow I get to tell my direct Superior admin that I don't write lesson plans. At all. I just don't do it. Everyday is an improvisational exercise aimed toward my short and long-term goals. My district is requiring that we all submit lesson plans 2 weeks in advance, and I cannot comply.

As a teacher, this might be the single most offensive thing I've ever read.

Yacota@yacota.bsky.social

They articulated it poorly but they are correct. Even if the individual teacher knows that the system is bad and does what they can, "teachers" (as a collective) do function like police within the current education system

"Court documents say a Lime scooter is valued at $1,365. The total loss in the incident was more than $2,600." ...for "as many as 100" scooters? That math ain't mathing. Also, Lime scooters belong in the trash.

I don't even play Dressmaker but I am enthralled by the gorgeous, beautiful, and occasionally completely unhinged designs I've been seeing around BlueSky.

This is the most hilariously infantile argument I've ever seen. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’ll make it simple. You hate apples. You’re in a group of people who are told they can vote: everyone in the group must eat 1 apple or 2 apples. You don’t have to vote, but you have to abide by the outcome. You know everyone else already voted, but you don’t know how they voted. Do you abstain?

I love how marginalizing trans folks and taking away their rights is considered merely an "imperfection" by some folks. I love how people blame trans folks for not voting against their own rights instead of blaming the candidates promising to take them away. Wait, did I say love? I meant loathe.

It's the easiest thing in the world to understand. When Democrat candidates run on anti-trans ideology, they are sabotaging their own chances to win. One vote will not change the result of an election, but one candidate willing to stand up for what is right CAN.
