Wanted to love the new Onimusha, but I merely liked it. bckl.gg/wuKC
Ignore the weirdos and the weirdos reacting to the weirdos: Pragmata is an instant classic, an action masterpiece that will be spoken of in the same reverent tones as God Hand and Vanquish for as long as people with fiery hearts play games. backloggd.com/u/Hugh/revie...
I have a lot to say about the absolutely wonderful new game from Grasshopper Manufacture. Their best effort since Killer7, and it's sure to be one of 2026's greatest games.
Recently went back to Clair Obscur after dropping it in Act 2 and played it to completion. Wrote a new review consisting of my new thoughts. Spoilers for the full game backloggd.com/u/Hugh/revie...

Forgot to mention the game will have a top-down mode too, and the ability to seamlessly toggle between the two! So far everything works great in both modes, I'm actually surprised more dungeon crawlers don't let you switch seamlessly between the two. #GameDev #IndieDev #SoloDev
#ScreenshotSaturday my new project is coming along well, I'm still looking for an art style (and maybe an artist 👀) but I've got some wild mechanics going on, including knockback effects that transfer momentum from one char to the next! I call it monster pinball! #GameDev #SoloDev #IndieDev
While certainly messier than the original, Hideo Kojima's surrealist treatize on loss and grief still resonates in that special way few games do. It helps that the game is fun as hell, too.

Turns out I actually quite disliked this year's eventual GOTY winner, to the point that I didn't finish it. It's a fine game, but to see it get all this adulation in a world where games like The Hundred Line are languishing in obscurity is more than a little disheartening. Still, there's merit here.
The Hundred Line is not only one of the best games I've ever played, it is not only a magnum opus for an entire genre of video games, but so far it is the defining video game of the 2020s. This grandiose maximalist meditation on war and human nature deserves every award, and will get none of them.

After tomorrow, there won't be an us. There will only be a you and a me. But we’ll remember us. When the chains clamp around our neck. When they march us out in the cold to build their bombs. When they stitch our lips shut because we spat on their shoes. There will be a memory of us to come home to.
Great music, visuals, and core concept. Shame about Sonic Team.

Played (and for the first time, finished!) the original PSX classic.
I talked about the somehow 6 years old Resident Evil 2 Remake and explained why it's both a masterclass in game design and also simultaneously the least-good of the Resident Evil Remakes.

I checked out Monsters of Mican tonight on stream and it's clunky but endearing at the same time. Like Wizardry meets Hylics store.steampowered.com/app/2745660/...

My ★★★★½ review of Split Fiction (2025) on @backloggd.com can be read here. Will be tough to top this year unless your game stars Samus Aran or was directed by Hideo Kojima.

My ★★★★ review of Final Fantasy XIII on @backloggd.com Excited to experience the rest of this trilogy. Was always grabbed by the way this looked in 2009, but I think the anti-JRPG sentiment in western media at the time kept me away from this and other things like it. Truly an awful time for games.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth immediately struck me as my favorite game of all time. Once I finished it, I had trouble finding the words to express my thoughts. I've found some of them now. Full game spoilers! www.backloggd.com/u/Hugh/revie...
